On the fence....
I'm on the fence about picking this one up, I know about all the technical issues it is having, but those can (and hopefully will) be patched up.

My big question is the story, is it traditional grimdark warhammer that the fans have loved for decades, or did this team go down the may the Nu WokeHammer stories and writing?

Those kinds of things can't be patched out of a games and I don't want to support devs, who ruin franchises with that kind of stuff, with my money.

Thank you.

It's a nice story so far nothing mind blowing but is a nice story shining light closely on how grey knights campaign. Now as for the gameplay and technical issues....I'd say its gonna be based on how lucky you are how much fun you can have. I haven't had any technical issues(i.e save bugs, crashes,or poor framerate). But I have had gameplay bugs show up a bit. Also you're probably gonna have a rough learning curve on whats optimal. I'd look up a few guides for that though it should make the early game manageable no matter what difficulty you play on. My personal biggest gripe is the nature of rng for gear. My psycannon purgator has had the hardest time getting a reliable weapon upgrade.

If you are a 40K fan, I expect you will love the story. It is true to lore and very grimdark. But it’s not just the story that is amazing. All the little details, from the character models to the wargear to the abilities used by the Grey Knights are taken directly from the Tabletop. It’s fantastic! Yes, there are some issues with balance and nerfing, but none of that diminishes the overall feel of the game, which is brilliant.

If you are a fan of XCOM, I recommend getting this game. As for the story, I personally really enjoyed it. Like Atoastydoofus said, it's nothing mind blowing but it does fit well with the gameplay and has interesting characters who all feel unique. There is also nothing "woke" if that does concern you. Tech issues are hit or miss. I have no problems whatsoever running the game but encounter the occasional bug. I know others who really do have some major issues running the game. There are definitely some aspects I would like improved such as an ability to respec but other than that it is a solid game.

I'm not a WH40K fan. No TT experience, just played WH40K video games over the years and IMO, as a turn based RPG/Strategy game player, this one is the best (Gladius would be #2). To me its Gears Tactics meets XCOM2 set in WH40K and again, as someone who wouldn't know if they were being true to the lore or not, I find the lore pretty kickass. The voice acting is great, the cutscenes are well done. The story is at least average, if not above average, for an XCOM clone.

Story is very good as is the voice acting. The only thing not Grimdarky is the character design. The Inquisitor is very waifu/anime elf but it's not a gamebreaker.

I'm not a fan of the "balancing" efforts but that's another story.

THank you, that makes me feel confident in buying it! I've not enjoyed alot of the newer WH40k novels with the weird cringe they've been sneaking in <3 :spacemarineskull:

Interested in elaborating? I’m contemplating doing a series of reviews for the Dawn of Fire novels specifically, but would be interested in hearing thoughts on any recent black library novels.

Just finished the campaign. I thought the story was well done.

its fun
Typical 40 K story. Solid in every aspect. Not mindblowing but a good solid 40 K story.

One thing id like to point out. If you like 40k and a fan of xcom, you'll like this game. However do not compare it to XCOM. It is close but not quite. There's the squad building, the ship management, the research and manufactorum. That's very xcom-ish. Combat however is closer to gears of war tactics. You almost never go into overwatch. The game rewards all out offense. Once you lvl up, unlock certain gear, skills and stratagems you can clear out entire squads in a single turn. Performing executions gives more actions. As much as I am enjoying the game so far, I feel a lot of abilities get overshadowed by teleport, auto crits, honor of the chapter.

Can not recommend it for now.

It has good groundwork but even before for many people - me included - glaring balance problems.

With nerf patch it got even worse.

More even as they destroyed one of their own game mechanic (stun) which is now almost undoable plus the gains from it (replenishment of Willpower points needed for flashy and much needed OP abilities) almost nerfed to nothing.

And with that the offensive gameplay which depends on Willpower spent and gains to be able to survive tons of mobs outnumbering you is crippled.

Unless they stop listening only to the "git gud" faction this will be a frustrating game for many with plenty refunds.

And all those guys puffing their chests: "It is easy and well done...":

If your chaos "mirror" unit Space marines have natural armor 3-4 and the Chaos Terminators 5-6 having you normal armored Space Marines ZERO and your Terminators 2 armor points is not balanced.

It is artificial difficulty.

And makes you feel you got an Imperial Guard Squad and not the mightiest and toughest Space Marines in the whole 40k Universe.

Dont get it. My game keep crashing at the mission after researching Kadex towards the final mission. Tried again on another save. Same deal. ♥♥♥♥ this game, ♥♥♥♥ its balance team (especially that one dev that decided to nerf apo to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ground), ♥♥♥♥ its unoptimizations, ♥♥♥♥ its confirm buttons. I swear i hate every cent i wasted on this garbage. I wish i could get a refund. Ill never get another game from this publisher and dev team.

if your are on the fence about getting it my advice is wait for a discount; content, mechs/balance vs price doesn't make it worth almost the price of a AAA+ game

and this is from the moron who refunded the preorded copy then rebought it again 5 says later (losing access to the relics in any future campaign apart form a save made within the first 2 hours of game)
