On the plus side, at least with the new Assassins, they learned from the backlash to the Dreadnought that people don't want restrictions on how to play. So the Assassins are freely useable at least.
But with the new DLCs, new mission types, new enemies, and all the new classes they really need more missions with 4 marines and dreadnought then on missions where the dreadnought is too big and no special guests, it should be 5 squad members after craft world.
Some of the mission types can be pretty grindy and turn into a bit of a slog so 5 characters would help speed those up as well.
Personally, I see no reason to buy it full price. Boarding action sounds interesting, but rest of the game is just too boring. Prestige classes are too deep in mid game (why? Why xcom2 give us new classes from the get go and CG allow us to have one in a mid game while you might never get any more).
4 chars limit makes squad composition boring while leaving entire barracks upgrade useless.
It is completely mindless at standard and its brutal early game at highest level for boring late game where you just one turn entire map with Librarian and interceptors.
If we go by tabletop standards, then the specialists would be outside the squad structure. However, squads would also be only of one type of "class" by that regard. Still, a fifth permanent slot and some rebalancing to account for it, would make the game a bit more flexible.
The enemies could be rebalanced to account for a fifth slot.
When's the Workshop gonna land?

Nevermind. Oh well, at least I didn't go crazy with discount at Fanatical and buy all the DLC too.
This is just another way of making your squad work , special missions lets you bring special heroes and that diversifies the gameplay well. They are balancing the game after that, and the core of Chaos Gates is still this elite strike force element.
Increase the enemies, I really don't care how they balance it - it's much less fun in general with a smaller team.
