Question on campaign timeline
Has it been ascertained if certain research or missions trigger story events?

Like is it best to fill out the codex left panel before researching the toxitus? My first campaign I took things as they come, and after 3 bosses, it seemed I entered a final phase as I was locked out of the remaining two, and missions were attritioning bloom spread pips so I started for the garden.

Then I started a second campaign, lol. I just researched the toxicus and am wondering if I should blitz research for each boss as soon as possible and beeline for them as soon as possible to get all 5 before the final phase trigger.

Is that wise? Or is it a case of "pick 3 out 5" and then you move on no matter how fast you research? Appreciate any insight into the story progression triggers or key events that trigger some sort of count down, anything like that. Thankee!

Defeating 3 triggers the events that cause the end game sequence to begin (note: there are more research and ship movement actions that follow, but all follow a clear path forward), and most other research is rendered irrelevant in the endgame.

My advice is use the boss missions as an opportunity to wipe clean bloom that has built up most, and probably start with the Poxus since you won't run out of green seeds.

The point of no return mission is that mission you unlock after downing 3 reapers (it's the one where you go investigate a temple with the inquisitor) and go looking around for it inside a warp storm. If you choose to start and complete that mission, it will kick off a series of unavoidable events and the game will end one way or the other in something like 30-60'ish days.

But if you just kill 3 reapers and not do that mission you can ♥♥♥♥ around for as long as the morbius meter permits.

Note on this: While you do the final "research", the plagues will fire off like crazy. So, at that moment, try to farm some items if you need them and don't worry about Morbus meter(unless it is like 4 / 5) or anything. Just finish the game.

Note: You CAN NOT defeat FIVE BOSSES! It's always one remaining.

Also, don't rush bosses. Even if you manage to defeat them, you are shooting yourself in the foot because you are going to be missing ... colorful disease stuff needed for item upgrades!

Rushing the Poxus boss is usually fine from a resource standpoint, and it's highly likely a player has a world with 4-5 all green bloom. And this prevents future green missions so you can get more of what you want (inevitably - yellow and blue)

Boss fights are always at the world with the most bloom of that color, so only Poxus will allow a significant bloom reduction when you fight it.

Also, the Poxus great unclean one is an easy boss to defeat.

The only semi difficult one is the Yellow Boss. Given that he causes platforms to fall ... what is this? Tiny Tiger fight or ... ?

I wish that all the pips of the corresponding strain disappeared once you defeated the corresponding boss. Yes, on every planet. What's keeping them?

Yes, the yellow boss is one to fight in your first three simply to avoid risking fighting him at the end and winding up with critically wounded knights when you need them for the final battle.

Best way to avoid issues with him is completely kill him in one turn.

The reapers are spreaders of the bloom, not it's origin. Existing bloom remains because the roots haven't been destroyed yet.

Researching a reaper when you've got a maxed out planet of it's color will prevent you from regularly having to visit and run noctilith crown missions.

My first run I tackled Green first as I had so many seeds, then I went for purple, lots of seeds again, then I went for yellow, boy was that a surprise, lol. I picked up on each boss having a gimmich, like the purple needing melee crits or aimed crits to defeat but an instant death option was very unexpected, lol.

I did just as you suggested. I used rally and stratagems to just massively buff and stack my inty with so many AP, I just started whacking until I won XD.

Now that I know its a pick 3/5 situation, I'm going to get blue and red this time for sure. Probably purple again, that was fun.

I was like, okay, this is a decent sized arena, and guns around to purify, sure I can do this. Then he smashes a screen wide swathe and they tell me it collapses next turn, and I was like, well...♥♥♥♥. lol definitely a perk up and make sure everyone is used to the fullest for sure XD

Well technically you get 2 turns, at least on easy mode. If you read the top left you see you have 2 turns before it collapses, despite the "tutorial popup" saying you only got 1 turn.

The yellow reaper is a great time to whip out 4 melee characters, ideally one an apothecary with stun biomancy and go to town. If you've developed enough research to have multiple stratagem uses then you can even apply something like quicksilver over and over to your carry to beat it down even more quickly. And be sure to trauma dump disruptor servos into him like there's no tomorrow after you've inflicted vulnerability.
