Optimal Difficulty
What's the difficulty that gives the best experience? Standard or Ruthless? Gotta be one of those. From my past experience, Standard can start to get a bit too easy later on. But that was way back when, when a lot of these changes weren't here.

What do you think?

on ruthless and with duty eternal its rly fun BUT you need to know the game mechanics to be not frustrated
Played Xcom 2? I actually consider this on Hard harder than Xcom on Hard (no iron mode) with DLCs.

I wont be recomending Hard to anybody who is not really used to this kind of games and like frutrating moments of expending 2-3 hours on a single mission,..

Hard? As in, Ruthless?

Really fun? Care to explain?

Ok in my Opinion its rly fun. The sweetspot between a hard challenge and fun. But for the first playthrough i would recommend standard.

There are a few suprises in the campaign and you need to know how specific builds work.

So for the First run take normal.

I never remember each game difficulty lvls custom names xD...

If the game has 4 game difficulties (easy, standard ,hard, very hard) I was talking about hard.

In comparison with Xcom2 I was talking about max difficulty (+ dlc which makes is sighly harder but without iron mode activated )

Most people find this game already hard enough on standard.

*Note, you wont really feel the difficulty until you reach the "eldar craftworld mission" (if you rush you may notice a dramatic increase) so dont prejudge it

I find the balance between original content and DLCs poorly balanced. I'll breeze thru some and bet slapped stupid on others and just dont play other types. I just ignore "save the guardsmen" spawns because I find them completely un-fun. I'm also occasionally running into broken issues on flower missions. Dreads completely out of LoS, shooting thru 2-3-4 walls to hit the Inquisitor for a 1 shot, or the new bell termis going out of screen and shooting thru the unbreakable walls to hit my guys. Of course, I cant shoot back because they dont even render, just an outline that's killing me. I find the difficulty level is less a hassle than the one off weird ♥♥♥♥.

If only I could tweak the difficulty myself. I don't want to give them extra hp, but more enemies would be nice. And such.

Meh.

My advice: don't even consider starting the game on Ruthless. The difficulty is all over the place and you will get squad wipes.

Legendary, but ignore bloom assault missions.

Ok, Standard it is then. Thank you everyone.

One more thing if you don't mind. Let me state my goal before I pick a difficulty:

To feel powerful without necessarily overpowering anything and to have some challenge. The power is the goal, but it has to be balanced.

Which difficulty?

so... standard?

Ruthless. Standard is a snorefest. Ruthless can be easy too if you know what you are doing and get past a certain point in the campaign with little to no losses. But on Ruthless you definitely have to EARN that obscenely overpowered tools that would enable you to break the game.

Legendary is for people who played the game before, know how everything works and what to expect. It's not THAT much harder than Ruthless. It just doesn't allow you to make stupid mistakes. On Ruthless in many cases you can turn your brain off and do mostly fine. On Legendary, you won't get past the first boss like that.

ruthless without experience of the game is rly ruthless and can be frustrating imo

Mission types are really unbalanced now. The vanilla mission types are much easier and shorter. However, playing with no experience on the new/DLC missions would probably be really frustrating. I would recommend Merciful or Standard to new people.
