No Precision Targetting on a Crit?
I thought a crit (ranged or melee) guarantees a precision target event but have had two events where it didn’t happen:

The exploding daemon: he was going to die in a regular melee hit so I used the guarantee-crit skill to disable his exploding ability. Didn’t work- it just went straight to killing him and he exploded.

At this point I thought: if the target is going to die, you don’t get to do a precision shot. But then another event:

My marine does a regular ranged attack but gained an AP. He has an auto ability: 60% chance to get an AP after a crit. Thus, he definitely rolled a crit. But the unit (a regular Chaos human soldier) survived, and I didn’t get the option of a precision target.

So what am I missing, please?

For the ranged attack: only ranged attacks using Psychic Aim (I think that's the name of the ability) give precision on crits. Any other ranged crit does not.

Thanks - I did not know about the range crit not offering precision!

You only get precision targeting on a melee crit if the blow doesn't do enough damage to kill the enemy outright or if the enemy is stunned already. If your blow didn't kill the exploding daemon you would have had the option to disable its explosive attack.

You only get precision targeting on a ranged crit if you are using a weapon or skill with precision targeting on it. Even if you used the ranged astral aim skill which has precision targeting, you wouldn't get to precision target if the crit does so much damage that the enemy dies in one hit.

the psychic ranged MrPyro is lookiing for is the astral aim skill.

Also, MrPyro, are you the Mordheim builder guy?

Yes, I remembered later on.

And I am the Mordheim builder guy, although I haven't touched that for years now. Still paying for the hosting though, so hope someone is finding it useful

Off topic, sorry everyone. People definitely are happy you maintained it. It's still getting use, even with Paramod having it's duplicate site. I'm glad to see you're around, i heard rumors people didn't know what happened to you. I'll send a friend request for emergencies. Don't feel obligated. I'm phasing out Mordheim from my activities, though i heard there was a #2 coming out, not reliable rumor though. Anyways, i'm rambling. Nice to see you again.

Unless they are partly behind the smallest amount of cover. Unlike the Knights, they duck back behind cover when there is incoming fire, with bolter shells impacting only on stone work. Knights just accept it (which if this was true to Lore would mean little, unless hit by a Plague Marine or Blight Hauler).
