What makes Crowe lackluster, however, is that you cannot customize his gear. Most Tier III wargear is considerably better than Castellan Crowe's equipment, and by the time he finally shows up, you'll probably have a decent supply of Tier II and III equipment in your armoury.
One other useful thing Crowe brings his his skill to suppress warp surges. If you're really struggling with warp surge events, you can bring along Crowe to tame things a bit.
DoT in general in this game isn't very useful against enemies. The damage ticks at the end of the enemy's turn, which means that they can still shoot/stab/claw/blight you before they drop dead of the final damage tick. Repeated applications of the same DoT don't stack either. To make matters worse, the things that you would want to hit with a DoT (e.g. bloomspawn and bosses) because they can take multiple turns to kill are generally immune to those effects or can easily outheal the damage. It would be great if you could ignite a Bloomspawn and back off as it burns to death, but Bloomspawn have 100% resistance to all status effects anyway.
