What's the down side of letting time advance?
Sorry for this n00b question; the advantages to letting time pass is clear, complete research, heal up, etc. - what is the downside?

there will be bloomspawn and penalties. Even sudden game loss can happen. You have to be careful what you research :-)

If you can keep ahead of bloomspawn, there is no problem. But, each time you get 3-4 bloomspawn missions and can only reach 1, you will get behind. This makes the number of low danger missions less, and the number of high danger missions more.

With a fully upgraded ship you can systematically reach two out of 3 missions. Or even 3 out of four missions.

Don’t you have to let time advance if there’s no stuff. I’ve been doing it and 3 pop up and only get to 1 of 3 missions. I’m almost day 500

You increase your chances of having to deal with missions you cannot get to in time, and the ones you can get to, become more difficult.

Yes, you have to advance time a little to trigger the next set of missions. I think the OP was asking whether to rush the missions or let as much time expire as possible. On standard difficulty, I found a little save scumming makes it much easier.

Save after a combat mission; advance time till the next missions arrive; if you cannot make it to two of them in time, then reload. To tell if you can make it to the second one, travel to the first one and click on the second one. It will tell you how much time would be left. Remember that planets with prognosticars will wait longer.
