How do you extract seeds from carriers?
I thought you could get them from the seed carries but they arn't dropping any.

use extractor servo skull, melee crit and destroy the part holding the seed, or astral aim and shoot the part that has the seed

all those methods plus one he forgot to mention
apothecarians also have an upgrade in their skill tree that lets them extract seed on ANY melee hit not just crits its in the bottom right corner

also any other melee skill that is an auto crit like hammerhead

The problem with the early game is that you can only get them via melee combat crits and your dudes suck at critting at that point. This was obviously an intentional design decision but the game does a kinda bad job at explaining it. :Bleaty:

Yeah this was a head scratcher. They made a big deal about how they removed RNG from combat but then installed it in the way you initially get a component needed to progress into the game. It gets compounded by not explaining what is actually needed to extract seeds. It does get trivial as the game progresses but at the start it can be a source of unneeded frustration for new players.

it's not that hard, both justicar and interceptor can learn Hammerhand which is a guaranteed crit, only takes 1 or 2 ability points to unlock. Also, a lot of enemies have "crit weakness" giving you a baseline 15% to crit against them, so if you wear melee weapons with +5 or +10 you can sorta pray and you'll get by that way as well. Also don't forget stunning the enemy gives you a 100% to crit against them as well.

Best way is to use the extractor servoskull. It takes up a wargear slot on one of your Knights, but it doesn't cost any AP to use with a 15 square range that doesn't require LOS to the target. You can get all the seeds in most missions with just one equipped on your squad since it has five "ammo". I haven't actually used crits to extract seeds from anyone in a while. I just use the servoskull and then treat them like any other pod and wipe them.

servo skulls aren't available until you finish a certain quest, and even once you have them there are certain large enemies it doesn't work on (the usual melee crits still work there)

Prior to servo skulls, just get an interceptor with crit bonuses to melee them with a weapon that also has +crit on force strike. Works wonders.

Interceptors usually have Hammerhand and a high crit rate and/or deal more stun damage. They make great seed collectors in early/mid/late game since Teleport allows them to reach the seed carrying enemies. Hammerhand/crits allow for the extraction of seeds from mechanical enemies too while the Servo skull can only extract from organic enemies.

Since they're one of the best classes and pretty much a part of any balanced party, you shouldn't have much trouble in extracting seeds once you've got the hang of it.

Just be careful, if you shoot them to soften them up, before you go melee. Autofire abilities like Support Fire has killed quite a few seed carriers in my runs.

You are correct that the game doesn't explain this system well. However, in the early game, you have two ways to get seeds easily: Hammerhand skill on Justicars and Interceptors, and Astral Aim on Purgators. Both guarantee* an automatic crit and precision targetting (you then aim for the body part that has the seed).Of course, if the damage from the skill is enough to one-hit kill the target, you won't get the precision targetting interface, but you will get the seed still.

*There are some enemies with critical hit resistance, but you aren't going to see those in the early game.

Hammerhand and Astral Aim still work a lot better. If you haven't unlocked the extractor skulls yet, you probably won't have Tier 2 or 3 gear that can build enough crit to guarantee a critical hit on a force strike, and you may risk just killing the target instead of getting the seed intact.

That said, your suggested approach works quite well in the later game, since the extractor servo-skull doesn't work on mechanical enemies or Chaos Spawn, for some reason--you still need to pull out those seeds manually.

There is also plant like on every map which can be interacted with (same as columns) which can be purified to get a seed.

This easily carried towards researching servo skull when I spent all seeds while not knowing.

use hammer hand. 100% crit....
M.Red May 29, 2022 @ 6:26am
at the beginning: Melee crits get you seeds
later on: Extractor skull or a apothecary skill to extract seeds on melee hits
late game: purgator ability to 100 crit - like a knife thru butter XD

Edit: later on bigger enemys you have to get melee classes or ranged crits with purgators to extract the seed

Question about the general statement "melee crits get you seeds" from my understanding of the game, there is a difference between Precision Targeting crits and non-precision targeting hits.

I'm well aware you can remove a seed by using a precision targeting crit (hammerhand, astral targeting) and targeting the part that is holding the seed.

What I'm not 100% sure on is whether non-precision criticals like from a regular old swing of a sword will harvest a seed. Also, if a precision targeting attack would deal so much damage as to outright kill the seed-carrying target, will you get the seed or not?
