and i am a newbe playing on easy i mean WTF
A portal will spawn on every turn, to complete the mission you have to fight your way to the Chaos Gate, clear the guard structures around it, then guard the Inquisitor as she channels to close it for five turns with the same warp portal every turn spawning.
As this is corruption level 5 your will also get Warp surges happening every 1-2 turns.
Considering half or more of effective attacks are designated melee weapons. And half the enemies want to close in to give you a hug I don't see the range on the flamer as an issue. I just consider it a AOE melee/area denial, not a ranged gun at all.
When dealing with large crowds I would also recommend the grenades that afflict the "crazied" status affect. It won't cause a ton of damage to those swarms, but it will spend 1-2 turns with them swinging/shooting at themselves instead of you :P and buy you some breathing room.
I have completed a dozen of them on legendary and it's always a challenge.
Rush, rush, rush up to the gate, don't even bother trying to destroy everything coming out of the warp portals. They won't ever stop anyway, just outrun them to the top - at best they ought to get one round of shots off at your back, during a round where they spend 2 AP to move and 1 to shoot, then you spend 3 AP on your next turn to rush ahead again and leave them in the dust because they can't catch up anymore. Best if you have some means of mass teleportation of course, hurling your fastest knight (in power armor for the extra maneuverability if possible) ahead at top speed even faster than your termies, and then teleport everyone to the top.
After that, some enemies will spawn at the gate when the Inquisitor starts channeling and you'll need to deal with them, but she should hopefully be (mostly) done before the earlier spawns from closer to where you started catch up.
In my experience that usualy results in quickly being overwhelmed once you start defending the Inquisitor.
Normally I rush the first turn, then run as fast as possible from portal to portal, wiping out everything that comes out. Hopefully in one turn for each portal. Make my way steadily to the gate doing this, then defend using the same strategy. I think it just pays to be aggressive.
Fair. It worked for me, is all - the enemies from the portals earlier along the map just didn't have the time to catch up until the ritual was complete, or almost complete, and certainly didn't have the time to dislodge the half of my team I'd left in position in full cover to guard against exactly that possibility, while the other half went full "Will It Blend" on whatever daemons spawned up closer to the top after the ritual began
(Spoilers: Yes it will)
Either that or you need skills for crowd control like the Apthecary AOE hobble.
If you have a Librarian, take him as well.
Don`t chase, the AI is retarded and will waste half the units by swarming around unknown areas without ever engaging.
Done. It`s that simple. Not fun, but simple.
I can see that working with spawns of plaguebearers and plaguemarines. However if you get unlucky and are faced with spawns of Hellbrutes, Plague Drones and Chaos Spawns, then I don't see it going well.
Stuns and executions are how you'll regain AP and WP, since you won't get any downtime between fights.
On the way in, if you are getting overwhelmed, just rush ahead with a Librarian, feed him some more AP from your Justicar, and use Gate of Infinity to bring everyone to him. Having at least one Knight equipped with a melee weapon that grants extra AP on executions helps a lot.
You can pull this off with one Librarian, but two makes things a lot easier as you can spread out the WP use a bit between the two of them.
