Can Noctilith Crowns be destroyed?

On the cathedral missions there are some Noctilith Crowns and the Inquisitor says that they must be destroyed. There's no mission attached to them beiong brought down, but they spawn enemies every turn... Is there a way to destroy them? Tearing down the nearby pillars on top of the crown seems to have no effect... Please help!
