Personally I ignore Knights at first because in the beginning your Rooster is good enough. I usually have 7 points when the first selection Screen comes up.

I pick Ranged Weapons, Armor and the Combat Items. Armor is important, Ranged Weapons because the basic Versions are already inferior compared to the melee Weapons and Combat Items can net you some really nice Grenade Items which can trivialize a whole encounter.

get knights to max, but all the other ones are good. You want knights to max to abuse it, not only will you get high level characters and the advance classes as rewards but if you don't want what skills they have (or they have a bad trait) then you can send them back to titan and get the full cost of picking them back.
Its a really good way early game to skip a few levels and to swap out anyone who is spending ages healing from a wound.

I did Knights and ranged weps first. It felt like a mistake as time went on I went for melee combat results. I suggest, depending on your build, to go for more ranged weapons, melee, or combat armor. Ignore Knights and armor first round in my opinion.

+1 for ranged weapons and Knights.

It costs me 2 points to recruit and I only get 1 point sending a unit back to titan. I went with Knight Ranged and Armor at first. Would have rather done gear instead of knights. I am also saving all my reqs for unlocking tiers and just buying level 3 items/recruits. The level 1 ♥♥♥♥ is just going to clutter your inventory. Level 2 stuff worth getting I guess situationally or depending on need.

Melee Weapons and Armour should be your first picks in my opinion (finished the campaign on standard without losing a single Knight!), because Melee is where your Knights truly shine, and then they'll need powerful Armour to stay wounds-free for the maximum amount of time.

Furthermore, for a very long while, early to midgame, the Interceptor will be by far and large your most awesome Damage Dealer, and to really capitalize on that, he should be equipped with Mastercrafted Falchions ideally, plus a mastercrafted Armour that has AP on Kill, which will let you kill 8 mobs in one turn with just the one Interceptor.

I think there maybe an overlap with the levels, as I know higher level knights you return for more but maybe a teir 2 knight is not always at that level. As for the gear sometimes the lower lv stuff is better, it won't has as many modifiers but the ones it does have maybe more useful (I have a tier 2 terminator armour for example that gives 6 amour but no other bonus)

AFTER MISSION RECRUITMENT REWARDS CAN HAVE ADVANCED CLASSES IN THEM!

At least 1 point in recruitment for potential advanced classes. Anything else as much as possible.

Its random but higher tier armor has definitly more potential.

I went for +1 knights (now 2) and melee... I think ill go for +1 melee and armor next...not using a lot of ranged tbh.

For me it is war-gear (servo-skulls, grenades, etc), armor, and melee requisition.

Some of the gear at tier 1 is great (I got a aegis booster for +3 aegis) also grenades.

Armor is nice because everyone uses it and at higher levels can have nice effects. I like to lvl that up fast.

Melee in game is awesome

I picked default for the hell of it, but on reflection I'll probably get ranged weapons first/next, like XCOM.

Even though this game focuses on Assault, which I prefer, the basic principle of good ranged weapons so that I can take out High Value Targets quickly should still apply

it does, a lot of people overlook ranged but having a silancer snipe a target from 18+ spaces away, ignore half cover and be able to precision target a body part to stop them casting is a game changer. Or simply have them park in a good stop and burn down a bloom tree in one turn with the help of a justicar giving them bonus AP
