It's Terra..... Not Earth
This is the sort of stuff that drives 40k fans crazy. Opening cutscene (which was great otherwise) the narrator said "Earth" Earth is a LONG forgotten name. Everyone calls it Terra.

For once it's good to be italian. Earth has always been Terra for us.
Jokes aside that's quite the oversight indeed.

In the dictionary for science fiction, they are one in the same.

ter·ra /ˈterə/
Learn to pronounce
noun
1. land or territory.
2. (in science fiction) the planet earth.

That's great. In Warhammer 40k It's called Terra. Holy Terra. In none of the books is it referred to as Earth. It's a continuity thing.

How could that slip by? That's somehow worrying.

That's not quite the same thing: context matters. In that vein, it's like saying "<insert actual name>" is the same as "come back here you bastard!!!" because that's what the person's dad yelled while chasing them around the house. Despite referring to the same entity, they are not always the same thing.
