WARNO
Is it possible to play WARNO like Combat Mission?
Are there campaigns with fixed amount of units and preplaced enemy positions? Without fast paced pvp style and rushing for objectives.

Excuse me, but isn't Army General exactly what you want?

IDK what kind of matches you're playing, but Warno PvP is not fast paced. lmao

If you compare it to Combat Mission, it absolutely is. Naturally is a bit of a bad reference point, considering that Combat Mission seeks to be a military simulator, thus it is very slow paced for a reason, where as WARNO goes for simply being realistic but also remembers it is a video game to have fun in.

As for the OP

Operations are the closest thing to what you would want, but those are single missions with pre-scripted unit placements and the like. AG, while technically that as well, has the actual combat be a slightly varied version of regular Skirmish, the maps are in different angles and the objectives are usually placed in the favour of the defender, making it so that the attacker always has to make a mad dash to get their objectives.

Are you talking about Multiplayer?

It's an RTS game with an active pause. If you play against the computer the game is not fast paced at all, and if you lose it's not because your APM is low.

Sounds interesting, need to check out operations then.

Combat Mission is great but the slow development of new content, no custom unit/hard modding, recent tendency to bigger scope/excessive micro, leaves me looking for something supplemental.

I like the unit amount here and the weapon/tactical sim is authentic enough for me. I just look for a game mode or mod to get a exp more close to games like CM, Steel Panthers, WINSPMBT et al.. Does not have to be as crazy as Combat Mission, just without the aggressive meeting engagement/mad dashing, constant buying units etc.

Same for Steel Division, I really like the extensive databases but are not compatible with the - compared to tac milsims - fast paced gameplay.

Might be that my preferences are in the minority but if the devs would ever offer such a mode or allow modders/scenario designers to create SP campaigns with some good briefing, sitreps, and mission/unit/camp scripting, I would insta-buy their entire product lineup.

The other one to consider for a more realistically paced wargame is Steel Beasts. Its not just a tank simulator. It has a wargame capability that is in many ways better than CM. Its not a Steam game is probably its biggest challenge right now, but is still actively supported with ongoing development.

Interesting opinion. I am familiar with Steel Beasts operational mode but IMO find it is far fetched to compare it to CM or to consider it in many ways better. Almost everyone primarily plays it for the tank sim aspect.

Would like get back into it but in my opinion the development proceeds at a snails pace with new content or additions to the scenario depot far and few.
