Add ROE option to have transport follow infantry on dismount?
just learned the other day that if you click the button to give a move order and then click on another unit you can have the first unit follow the second. been using this a lot with IFVs and infantry lately, would be cool to have it be an option in the game settings/ROE.

could even expand on this idea - perhaps if you then give the infantry a "move fast" order they will get into the transport that's following them and then move. this would greatly reduce the number of mouse clicks required to pack up and move multiple units of infantry, towed artillery, etc.

Thoughts?

yeah, IVFs and infantry interaction should be reworked and less microey

agreed. It could even be made to work with the "cover" ROE setting.

when the infantry dismount/artillery unhitches -> transport follows.
Infantry move to cover per ROE setting.
Once infantry/artillery stops moving, transport moves to cover per ROE setting.
Give infantry/artillery a move order and the transport moves to follow again.

Could expand this even further: make it the default behavior whenever infantry or artillery has *any* valid transport following it be to pack up and move when given a move fast order. This way if you have a spare truck or BMP or something left over and an infantry unit that lost its transport you can re-engage this behavior by just giving the new transport a move order on the infantry per OP.

Make the auto-sell transport on/off button override this behavior.

I think it could reasonably be made to work without having to add any new UI elements as well, other than a check box in the options menu to turn auto-follow on or off.

but why?
micro is one of the points of an RTS game, u can win outnumbered and outgunned if you put in some effort.

the auto load up and move for infantry just makes the game easier for noobs, while not adding much for better players.
transport micro is a real thing and has saved some of my men multiple times. use your eyes people please.

same logic as pinging at the start of games, yes it makes it easier, its not needed tho

additionally, i imagine loading up a vehicle while under enemy fire is not the least stressfull of tasks in reality, so you just clicking twice and 2 seconds later a 14 man squad is inside a 10 passenger vehicle is actually pretty nice as is in my opinion.

this is not classic rts but wargame one. those always were about tactics and not about APM boosting.

I don't really understand your position. what's proposed doesn't remove your ability to micromanage your units how you want to. similar quality of life stuff (auto-smoke, auto-cover, auto-sell, auto-evac for planes, the list goes on...) is already in the game. All of those features can be disabled by un-ticking a single check box in the game options.
