2 I think yes. it has a radius of 3.5 km and nerfs the accuracy by 20% within that radius.
They are very hard to use unless the bomber and the EW aircraft are the same model. keeping everything together is the challenge, but basically you are trying to keep all your attack aircraft within 3.5 km of it while in range of enemy AA missiles.
Moreover, It is best to use an EW plane in conjunction with a SEAD plane and a bomber.
Basically: First, SEAD. Second, bomber. Last, EW. Make sure they are flying near each other though.
The SEAD will force the enemy to turn off their radar AA, and if not hopefully the SEAD takes one or two out. The bomber will hit the targets, and lastly the EW acts as a shield with its high ECM.
It used to be that you can easily send the EW first, but with last major patch the developers made it that missed missiles can still cause planes to lose morale and auto-evac. So even if enemy AA don't hit the EW, they can force the EW to auto-evac and leave your other airplanes without the ECM buff.
However, in the end, just remember that the game relies on RNG. You can do everything correct and still suffer horrible losses if you get bad RNG. I remember one time my 4 unvetted KUBs managed to hit and destroy a EW, 2 SEADs, and a F-111 with every launched missiles while the SEADs hit nothing. The air player understandably left the match.
Does this mean it will have a lower chance of hitting friendly planes within range?
Or will it mean it will have a lower chance of hitting enemy radar based missiles fired from within range?
If it's the latter, then electronic warfare aircraft are pretty useless. ( ´_ゝ`)
Missiles within range, which is different to the helicopter where the artillery needs to be within range for it to affect corrected shot.
