WARNO
This or Steel Division 2?
Which one do you all think it more worth my 40 dollars? I want both, really, but only budget for one game today.

Also what erra do you perfer should play a ton into this, Warno is very much a WIP game where as SD2 is also to an extent however it's a FAAAAR more fleshed out game with tons of content though yeah I'd advise grabbing that on sale as IMO it's a bit pricey.
I consider SD2 to be the best game Eugen has ever made and their is more content coming out for it still to this day. However maps are slow to come if at all and the originally slated map making tool never came. Considering you will have a fair few maps to play on from the get go (not having them incrementally dolled out as most who have been here from the beginning have had) you will not notice this. But for the rest of us SD2 maps are like old friends, well trodden and without too much more to offer but the meta deployments.

WARNO is an excellent game with some improvements over SD2 like a map making tool. However WARNO also takes a step back in some departments, for example Tanks in WARNO having a hitpoint system that ensures that most times they "tank" single hits that "penetrate" and do not get destroyed. I am still not able to explain away how this is realisitc but understand the devs needed to stop main battle tanks from being wiped out very quickly. Personally I would have just made SACLOS systems less accurate, but I think they tried that earlier and it did not work out. There are also some abstracted systems like reactive armor which are just stat buffs rather than actual mechanics. Not a big fan of the artificial choke points that are the WARNO objectives either. Both teams must basically go for the same pieces of ground of exactly the same size. SD2 gives you more general ground to go for so you as the commander can determine what is most important to you. I think WARNO goes with the assumption that cold war battles would not end in a front line but rather be "highway" battles.
WARNO is still a great game and is a lot of fun but is starting to leave completely believable realism and suspension of disbelief & uncompromising realism (which they apply aggressively to thier warno unit TO&E make ups) that they had with SD2 with a few cracks.

What made you consider getting SD2 or WARNO by the way?

Neither. Don't buy either game. It's a trap. Save your money for Broken Arrow or Men of war 2.

What are your reasons?

I think it depends on which time period you like more. I have both and I have barely touched steel division 2, but am thoroughly enjoying Warno because i enjoy the modern weapons systems more.

Broken arrow isn't a bad game either but i think Warno does some things better and broken arrow does other things better. Warno's battles are definitely larger scale and i think jet support is better implemented. Broken arrow does the close in tactical stuff better. I have not heard anything good about Men of war 2.

I picked up warno and I am having a great time in 10v10s and playing against "hardest" AI. You might just have a skill issue?

I am finally bored of Wargame and RUSE and wanted to upgrade to their latest iterations. I picked up Warno since it is more recent and SD2 looks like a massive money pit right now, so I'll wait for it to all to go on sale.

Awesome, great choice! I have both and personally by far prefer WARNO, it's not even close. The graphics are soooo much better and the gameplay is more interesting as well with more different unit types (helicopters and ATGMs, specifically). I do prefer the era though so I may not be a completely fair judge.

RUSE was released 14 years ago and people still play it, what a gem. Might be the best Eugen game. Such a shame it was removed from steam market due to licence.

it depend if you like ww2 or modern units the most.
steeldivision 2 have been out for years and have dlcs and not so many bugs.
Warno will be released on 23th may with 5 campaigns and more dlc's will come with some giganti campaigns

els the games have many things in common such as how the campaign work.
In tactical battles steel division there if fog of war but you will see the fronline love due to a line on the map that constantly changes..
In warno it is all about capturing zones and you just have to put a command vehicle there for x moments to capture. So that is one big difference.

Both games are good in their own way.

Steel division 2 with ww2 units i dare to say it is more about AT guns, infantry and artillery and unforgiving planes that will totaly destroy your day if you dont have any airdefence left.
And tanks are pretty bad in my oppinion.

warno is more about modern units, longer distances and missiles and personaly i like that more and you have a bigger chance of killing planes.
( but im also no expert in steeldivision 2, but better at playing warno so maybe taht is why i think that way )

ps. I can highly recommend the old game named wargames red dragon its great
