You start with an army that have allot of good tanks and that is your nato strength.
The way to win as nato is to hide behind things and make the enemy come closer and then shorten the distance of the fighting. The problem is the enemy have allot of cheap apc's with missiles and you dont want to fight them out in the open, so close the distance.
Example use your mortar to drop smoke and then drive closer and wait or drive out of the forrest and shoot 1-2 times and reverse back.. repeat.
Also you need to focus on counter artillery fire and shoot 3 shots and then move your artillery.
It is possible to win and make the enemy suffer allot of losses.
you can win the first 2 attacks but then the enemy try to encircle you.. when they do this retreat to the nearby city ( black shield ) and then you want to defend via your infantry rather than tanks.. and park your tanks and vehicles just below the main road that goes though the map.. And then again just wait for the enemy.
Now you will get your fist extra army in the south and bonus units like artillery.
And a bit later you get all the forces in the south on the campaign map, and then the war turn.
You can also try to send a unit on the campaign map that cut off the enemys border so all the advancing units get cut off.. Once this happen they will pull back to own territory.
Other than that I love Army General, can probably get even better but absolutely my favorite gameplay style, also as veteran of all the long and hard SD2 Campaigns on the Eastern Front in Poland :)
