I tried one campaign as PACT today, selected all T80Bs I could get, attack moved them to the enemy spawn points and lost only two of them, while completely wiping out the enemy army. It is that stupid.
So when you play PACT, you probably should play the hardest difficulty and not bring too many tanks, to not make it to easy. If you play NATO, I don't think the campaign is hard, but the battles are just frustrating.
Didn't played Highway 66 right?
There is a very good example of this.
In airlift campaign, if you play as nato, there is a PACT pawn with T80 tanks blocking a edge of the map flanking path.
You get leopard 1's and panzergrenadiers.
You cant break through with leopards. Not unless you are a micro genius.
But you get airpower! And they dont have AA.
Just TWO planes at start of the battle wipe out the entire soviet T80 armor push. And then you mop up the leftover BMP's with your own tanks.
So use airpower.
I notice the campaigns are set up in such a way that oyu always have tools to counter the opfor - you just have to use them right. Its like chess, really.
I played Higway 66 and left hook on hard, I use either heavy tanks (Abrams, challanger, Leo 2) to hard counter T80B with a blob of tanks, they just need an occassional repair (T80U and such are a problem though), or just helis that massacre them.
Especially US helis just murder everything as the usual PACT AA just consist of individual strelas or iglas and they can't oneshot them, the german or british helis require micro and being careful.
And yes airpower works like a charm too, it's especially fun in combination with an MP company for lots of scout jeeps.
On the other hand - all other infantry is fairly uselsess, and I try to avoid using them. Same for artillery. In some cases if you are desperate in a specific area you can us the strategy described by Ahrima (Dragons work too besides MILAN) on defense, but I almost never attack without Helis, heavy tanks or airpower.
Try to attrit and push enemy forces on the flanks of a major objectives, they will break in a few turns (still a lot of time ahah), after that you can encircle the main body of their army and cut they from their supply, from that point its over for the ai
Honestly it's pretty easy tho the numerous Apaches and Abrams allow you to just run thru everything without much contest. I don't even really use the A10s unless a pioneer unit gets jumped by a tank div
