Guess best way to play Army General would be to auto resolve tactical battles, but where is the fun in that ?
Yeah, when you play NATO you have much better units in 11 ACR and can obliterate a lot of NVA units, you will have some losses and have to fall back eventually.
I found the AI acutally not too horrible after playing a bit more. I played the SP campaigns in WGRD and there the AI was much, much worse.
People play the AI because they're afraid of getting wiped and losing all their stuff in the first 5 minutes of a mp 1v1.
i guess he meant that after 3 battles the enemy battalions have been so decimated he could auto resolve the way through the rest.
In my first try with NATO i played 5 battles i think, most of those with 11 ACR, and autoresolved through the rest.
Your tanks are the best weapon you have and powerfull BUT do not have the same range as most of the enemys cheap apc's that have AT missiles.
So basicly hide behind a forrest and let the enemy come closer and then attack them at a closer range vs max range. That way your tanks have a better chance of winning when they are in range.
Also be carefull not to get cought out in the open and enemys aps with missiles can shoot your from both sides. And hold the tanks front towards enemy as well.
Also you actually also do have missile apc's your self and strong infantry.
It can be really good to unmount infantry in buildings and let them shoot the enemy in the back, some infantry can even shoot pretty far.
Also try sending 2 bradlys along the side of the map, maybe they can get deep behind enemy territory and find and mill the russian artilleryy and the TOS systems that are extremly deadly.
Use the C key to get an overview of viewing distance and angels its very usefull.
Also you want the mortars to fire freely and then let the enemy art try to take it out.
When they do this use your long range artillery to counter artillery/snipe and take out enemys art one by one... it is VERY important you move your long distance art after every 3-4 shot 50m to the side or so els it will die.
Also move your mortars now and then.
Be aware you do not have much AA defence and your planes cannot help you since there is a SAM system on the campaign map with a very long distance that just stop your planes when you try. In general the AA guns are pretty bad and so are the stinger missiles but you can scare the plane a bit or damage it.
els keep in mind you only have the units you have... so try to pull back tanks that are almost dead vs risking they are killed and try to repair them.
But honestly the start of the campaign is unfair there is just an extreme amount of stuff comming directly at your few armys on the campaign map. I manged to win 4-5 fights and lost 1 so far and it look bad now i will properbly loose my tanks BUT soon i get reinforsments so that might help.
els i found that sending 4 tanks forward in a group is pretty good, just be carefull about your flanks and try to not fight apc's with missiles head on, then try to use your bradlys against them or attack from different sides at once.
And finaly keep an eye on the zones.. your command vehicle with a star dont have to be in the zone but you just need to be ready to go back and take the zone again if you loose it, els you risk loosing at some point.
Thanks man but what about the pact forces ? I'm struggling against abrams and mass bradleys.
