WARNO
Non-Multiplayer Divisions of WARNO
Hello chaps and ladies,

I made this thread purely out of interest when I realised that there are many Divisions in the game beyond the ones we know from the Armoury and the Multiplayer lobbies, particularly found in the Operations missions. Why? Well, a couple of reasons. Firstly, doing something like this was a good way to expand my own knowledge of the era, but secondly and more importantly, this sort of thing can be quite useful for predicting either what new Divisions could end up in multiplayer, as well as what divisions would almost definitely make its way into the Army General campaigns.

It also helped me discover a few glitches, though they are very minor.

16de Pantserdivisie (Belgium):
The 16de Pantserdivisie features largely Leopard 1s supported by unique AIFV-B IFVs in multiple configurations including 25mm, Milan ATGMs, and command variant. As of 1989, I believe it was the only Belgian combat division that would have been based in Germany at the outbreak of war, although as part of the I Belgian Corp, the 1er Division D'Infanterie will also likely be deployed within days and sent to the frontline. The 1er Division has no presence in the game, however, and likely has not arrived in Germany at this point in WARNO's story.

As of posting, the 16de Divison has only appeared in the Dev blog for the 21st November 2023 dev blog announcing the release of Milestone GOUVION. The devblog mentions a 'guest star in one of [the] Army General campaigns will be the appearance of a nation only briefly featured in a current Divison.' This statement was accompanied by a picture which, after some research, appears to feature an AIFV-B-C25 sporting the 16de Pantserdivisie division badge (featuring a shield vertically split in Red and White with a lion's face). It is my opinion that they will be exclusively a campaign presence until a little while after the first CENTAG Army General campaigns are released. Then, in the future, it will be the next full NATO nation to be introduced to multiplayer.

The Belgian units within the 2.Pz.Grenadier Division are also likely to have come from 16de Pansterdivisie, as they are stated in the WARNO devblog for 2. Panzergrenadier that they are reinforcements from a nearby NORTHAG division, rather than an integrated part of the unit. There are no statements or insignia that makes that a certainty though.

7ee Division Blindee (France):
The 7ee Division Blindee is the Division used by the player and their ally during the mission The Dieburg Salient. It was directed to CENTAG in response to the Soviet invasion in order to delay attempts to encircle Frankfurt until more French Divisions could arrive to halt the offensive. This could mean they might feature in a CENTAG campaign as reinforcements.

Hilariously, as of posting, in the Kills & Losses Screen, the 7ee Blindee are represented by the logo of a WW2 Wehrmacht unit; the Panzer Lehr Division. Presumably this is a leftover file from the Steel Division games. The badge at the top of the screen however shows the correct symbol with a female Centaur throwing a javelin, imposed on a black cross.

3rd Armoured Division (United Kingdom):
The 3rd Armoured Division appears in the Operation 'Hold Until Relieved' during which you play as the Household Cavalry Blues and Royals Regiment in support of the Queen Own Highlanders. The badge of the 3rd Armoured Division (Red triangle within a larger Black triangle) can be seen in the Kills and Losses screen though it incorrectly names it as the Queen's Own Highlanders when you put your mouse over it.

The 3rd could potentially end up as a multiplayer division in the future as it is one of only two remaining British divisions in the British Army of the Rhine not yet in multiplayer (the other being the 4th Armoured Division). Not sure what more another division could offer over the 1st Armoured, however.

12.Panzer Division (West Germany):
This Division features as an enemy of the player during the East German mission Gotterdammerung. It even has its own division crest appear in the kill-feed at the end of the battle (Red over White in a staggered pattern, featuring a quartered gold/red lance banner beneath it) although the division is incorrectly called the 12.Pz-grenadier Division when you put your mouse over it. I have little real-life information about this division during this period but it will likely appear in the Army General Campaigns.

57-ya Gv. Strelk. Div (USSR):
The 57th Motorised Rifle Division are the playable division of the Operation mission Sledgehammer. They were responsible for breaking the defences of the US and West Germans around Hanau before the 79th Guards Tank Division would break through. I doubt they will be added as a multiplayer division, however, as they will offer little that is not already offered by the 27th and 39th Motor Rifle Divisions.

11.Mot-Schutzen-Division (East Germany)
The 11th Motor Schutzen is the division used by the player during the Operation 'Gottergammerung'. It managed to overextend itself on the Bundesstrasse 22 and was pushed back by the US 1st Division and the W.German 12th Division. However a single regiment, the 17th Motor-Schutzenregiment held a defence in the valley of Stegaurach to allow the rest of the division time to reorganise and hold Bamberg. The logo in the Kills and Losses screen just shows a standard East German Roundel.

I think I found them all and I hope it was of interest. I'm sure we will see MANY more than featured here when Army General comes out.

Army General will feature all the divisions on theater, not just the ones in multiplayer.

In many case, they are too similar to MP ones to be worth adding later in MP, but some may provide a good inspiration for future ones indeed ... ;)

Well, that one slipped past us.
Panzer-Lehr was the first division we created for SD1 and tested the new divisional system on. And since then, on SD2 or WARNO, its coat-of-arms has become the default one for any new division which doesn't have its proper one yet.

Hello MadMat! Gosh that was quick!

Given the development direction of your game being as true to history as possible, I had no doubt that all of the divisions in theatre would be featured. I just had a bit of fun finding all the divisions in the game and seeing which ones we would likely see again, given that I don't actually know that much about NATO in Germany during this time.

Ah interesting! That would explain how it found its way to WARNO, hah! Glad I could help in some small way.
