electro-optical active protection system
French tanks have Eirel Soft kill APS modeled, was just wondering if that was eventually coming to game as a mechanic

Did this have this technology in 1989? as far as I know APS is still pretty new

It might be why their front armour is so high, because it is still 30% more than IRL.

the Eirel is modeled on the Brenus so I assume it's in timeline

The EIREL wasn't added until to the AMX-30B2 until 1991.

Meanwhile, the BRENUS (in it's in-game form) is actually based the AMX-30B2 GOLFE, which was the ERA upgrade package. Although a bit confusing, Eugen chose to use the "Brenus" name due to its famility, as no one would know what the heck a "Golfe" is.

EDIT: After looking a bit deeper into the EIREL APS system, it would probably be too much of a mechanic hassle to implement outside of a extremely granular military-simulation.

The EIREL counters IR-guided missiles, but nothing else. That means it could provide defense against Bassoon and Konkurs ATGMs, but would do nothing against Malyutkas (MCLOS), Kobra/Agona (radio-guided) or Svir/Refleks (laser-guided) missiles.

fair enough, that would be a lot of work for something pretty niche

I can't find much on the difference between Golfe and Brenus

The APS (Trophy) has been used on the Merkava for the first time since 2010.
