Forward deployment of 82nd Airborne
The M551 Sheridan should be forward deployable. It was designed to be air dropped. Would definitely give a use to the vehicle. As it is now, there is very little point to bring this its ATGM is laughable, which is historical, and it can not be used open field. The Russians can forward deploy they BMD which is better than the Sheridan in almost every way. the 82nd also does not have special forces so its at a small disadvantage over the other parachute divisions.

This was the original plan and was substantively tested prior to the release of 82nd. A decision was made at that time not to allow forward deployment for tanks... It may change in the future but at the moment unlikely.

Definitely agree that they should be forward deployable. For realism sake they did drop but were bad vehicles. Even today vehicles like the Sheridan are used for mobile firepower and not for tank on tank. Sheridan vs T-72 is like clubbing a seal.

I agree, as this is more like an infantry-fighting tank, is lightly armored, and is almost useless against any other tank

82nd also only has aerorifles and a few recon units that can be forward deployed via helicopter.. why can’t I bring in airborne infantry via helicopter too? Why does Vdv paras div get so many units that you can bring in by helicopter?

Dont forget that you do get a truck load of Tow2 Hummers that can Fwd deploy for cheap. They get Med Stealth which is doable for ambushes.

this is true, but the state of ATGM vehicles is in a poor state, as i feel they always have been in these games, and should be in a different discussion.
