Used materia fusion to create that last night. Going to try it out today :P
It does 9999 to him for 22mp, at least on hard mode. You can spam it to knock him out of his boomerang attack too. Then finish him off with a hell *aga, or quake.
That M4 line actually has multiple bosses that are way harder than average. Makes sense, it's hella worth it.
The worst one of them if you're trying to do them at the start is m4-4-4 which is another vajradhara fight.
To do it on hard you either need to tank 16k physical attacks or be able deal 20k dps for 4 seconds straight and then tank 4k with barrier.
You can make yourself immune to all elemental damage that early but not phys and you can't block or dodge his boomerang.
So it's a raw stat check to trip up people underleveling all the early missions with cheese.
First time I beat him was by equipping 3 of the Shinra-something’s (the accessories that boost VIT). That made it so he couldn’t one-shot me. After that it was just attacking and healing.
When I use gravity on him it says "GUARD." What am I missing?
OP you can either break its limit break (harder early on), kill it before it can cast (if lucky but hard), or survive it. If you can cast barrier this will help and then stack gear for that fight that boosts HP% and accessories that boost HP %. This is your best way. If you can "break HP" via a summon/limit break in preparation for this fight off some random mobs on top of everything else if you lack enough HP boosting options then this could help you survive a single limit break long enough to kill it before a second limit break.
You may have to do this a few times until a bit further in where you start getting much stronger spells (Energy/Electrocute) which can rip these guys apart and stop their limit breaks. You can pretty much beat anything including super boss and do all missions the moment they're available in chapter 3 & 4 so its just a matter of approach. Try some other missions if you want to get better stuff and come back to this one IF its not the only mission you got left. If you need any gear from shop like materia/accessories the Tonberry map you get Tonberry summon has extremely good gil farm. Every 2-3 tonberry gives 500 gil per tonberry and the accessory they drop sells for a lot, too. They're fast to kill, too.
Also, I use high jump and it's op in all situations.
If boomerang (or the other ones that do the 8000hp wrecking ball attack...) one-hit kills you, and you cannot do enough damage to drop it even to 75% then the solution is to make sure you have enough HP and/or barrier to survive a hit. Then it's only a case of healing (potions or Cure spells are probably quicker than regen at this level) and staying alive loing enough to whittle it down.
You CAN do it.
You can also "cheat" by surviving long enough, if you have Odin in the DMW, because until the Gaea Marlboro, all the mission bosses are succeptible to Zantetsuken ( This was the only way I could defeat the multiple "Movers" )
A tip about Movers if you ever run into issues with them. Gravity & Gravija are the best way to kill them if you can't 1-shot them. This is important because they have special troll AI by developers to perform the Delta Attack (at least the harder variants definitely do) if you perform certain actions they're weak to like Darkness and the punch skills. It will instantly force them to cancel current actions and use Delta. Gravity does not do this so you can weaken them then 1-shot them to avoid this. Also, Gravja is AoE and can have 2-3 hits on them at start of fight before they can move to deal with multiple movers at once or bait them to walk near each other for efficient dmg.
However, in the off chance they just "randomly" Delta attack early as odd as it looks due to timing being a it harder to get used to at first compared to some other attacks you can actually dodge the Delta by rolling (not sure if you can by jumping as I usually just roll dodge except on Minerva and haven't tested jump but most likely should work since roll does).
