No offline mode (Update)
You have always be connected....When i choose host my own game and pick the single player option it always connects to the internet. I tested it also with turning my modem off

Update: The developers have confirmed even after they fixed the "bug" you still need an online authentification. So basically no offline mode is coming

After we've fixed things on our end, you should be able to play fully offline with no internet connection whatsoever. Though it may require a one-time online authentication.
So the game will never have an offline mode than good to know

wow...so tired of all this "online only" game garbage. Guess I'm better off going back to console and old PC retro games at this rate. Thanks OP for finding / testing this out. You da bestest. Saved my money by doing this for me. Stay chill matey.
They just patched it! Check out last update.

I though the game had a offline mode / self hosted mode.

But it looks like it has an always-online, typical GaaS crap, but shadowy hidden.

I seem to have no issues playing offline. Unplugged ethernet cord to computer. Launched Vrising. Play > Private Game > Start New Game. It stalls for a bit at Authenticate, but pushes through. *Shrug*

Playing offline works absolutely fine on my Steam Deck. However, downloadable contents (such as additional accessories in character creation) seem to be missing in offline mode. Don’t know why though, maybe due to some account/dlc linking or verification?

It sounds like verification, yes.. But at least the base game works offline even if game still tries to connect by default and there's really no official way to start an offline mode without that auth tries (ie start an offline game at menu and then game simply avoids tyring to connect as usual outside your localhost)

go play Valheim and never look back,this company is obsessed with pvp slog fest, and as a hint all their previous games are dead because of focus on the pvp.
tldr : Valheim for coop/offline

Yes yes, trying to fool me , when I have played pretty much every single game from this Dev, and hint hint
They abandoned every single previous game with this stupid PvP focus , Valheim devs might be lazy but these guys are just another level of bait and switch
