How crucial is base-building in this game?

I suck at building things and its honestly the one things keeping me from trying this game out.

It's basically required, but you certainly don't have to be good at it. Just make a rectangle, toss all your crafting stations and storage boxes in there, and you're all set.

Edit. Plus you can find someone to play with and let him do the building part of game.

its essential, PvP its your defense not sure how involved but for PvE theres no need to use skill if you want you can just claim an area drop refining machines and crafting tables .

im pretty bad at the base building i have floors and walls to make "rooms" and i stick the machines in these boxs ;)

The whole game is pretty much getting mats to build stuff, new weapons, potions, building material, so bosses drop the "blueprints" to build new things and drop abilities.

Im bad at Base building too, but in this Game its so easy you dont need to worry. Getting the stuff needed for building structures is, at the beginning a hassle, but later not a problem anymore. You start small and expand as you need to.

Destroying existing stuff like walls, flooring etc is free, meaning you get all your materials back after destruction! Structures can be re-positioned easily and without problems.

Re-location of your base is with this update as easy as ever as you can just port your base from the starting location or anywhere else to a later location.

There really is no skill needed to build a base and it is as easy as possible. Look at the tooltips inside of the building menu and you will get most of the functions without thinking.

Just start the game and see for yourself, if you want you can just play in private without Multiplayer and with choosable difficulty so the game can be hard or relaxed.

If it is anything like settlement building in fallout 4, i probably really like it. I also like designing stuff in the sims games, so i imagine it is more like that. if you ever built custom houses in sims 4, i imagine this game has similiar stuff like that.

Definitely closer to Sims than Fallout 4.
