It totally reminds me still of frost punk 1 but with a new spin.
Only con i have so far is the UI which can be improved on at anypoint!
The shift away from city building / survival to politics and management is a bit too harsh in my opinion and yes: I was aware of that. I saw the gameplay trailer and I hoped for a better Urban Empire. Both concepts can work well together but the balance of both things currently isn't right in my opinion and shifted way more towards politics leaving the majority of players (which digged FP1 for it's combination of city building and survival) behind. Politics, ideas and factions are totally fine and a nice welcoming addition.
Districts & the supply/demand systems for them are also fine but they need more possibilites regarding the "building" component, like layouting the roads by myself or place researched buildings freely in a district which affects production & pollution. This just connects you more with your city.
Also the UI...nope nope nope. I thought that the Flash-citizens from the gameplay trailer were debug tools for pathfinding and that the whole gameplay was accellerated. Ugly in my opinion. Make the citizens & automatons move at normals speeds (regardless that days/weeks are running fast in-game) Also the shiny polished steel interface simply doesn't fit with the icy-ness, despair & heavy industrialization powered by coal & oil of the FP world. A dark & cold UI would be much more fitting.
Even though this is a beta, I'm not that interested in the story of the final game. For me a story in a game is more like an interactive movie. I'm more interested in the interactivity itself than to know how a story might start/end.
If you'd ask me for a personal rating: 6/10.
Thad said what i do know about this is. This game is going to be a freaking joke. Frost punk, for all that you could describe it. Was never a puzzle game. This game has became nothing more then a Puzzle game. Where instead of trying to control heat zones and stuff like that. Your now trying to ensure Each District touches x amount of things while touching only x amount of things.
It has become in a way Candy crush where you need to line up 3 of these in a row and only touch 1 of those but line up another 3 of these. This dose not actual feel like frost punk. Combine this with the fact that resources management was replaced by money. Which is funny when you think about it.
"O hey we are starving, can you build us a new food district. "
"nope not enough cash in the bank"
"what we got the resources to build it. Just let us build it"
"nope you can't no money means no building. just starve to death"
"but we have wood and metal"
"i said no"
like come on... where did this come from? why would wealth even play a role in a city like this? they barely have any kind of prosperity to begin with. And now the want to be paid and deal with things like taxes and ♥♥♥♥. Like the world is still ending hear, why are we worried about this?
also to add insult to injury. Game is just ugly. The districts are a jumble of random buildings. The roads look horrible and disjointed. And why is everyone the flash? IS it to cover the reason why their is like only 5 people wondering around each district? like the old game you saw hundreds of people wondering about. This even thou its like 10 times larger then frost punk one. The city looks like a ghost town.
This is sad at this point. And this is coming from someone who played over 10 days straight playing FP1.
In all fairness 11 Bit did put the effort in, we can see that.
The real issue is that this game is so vastly different from the first game, that the Developers have essentially alienated their original fan base.
Me personally love this FP2 more than FP1, because the story is way more suitable to be a game for moral dilemma, but if someone like it, than someone doesnt like will exist as well.
Feeling empty on the purchase enough to put in for refund. Good luck with whatever side you choose
1. It is at least Frostpunk spiritually in the sense that you are fending problems off from all sides, Citizens, Resources, Heat, etc.
2. Im going to give it a chance and keep my pre-order.
That being said - Unless it really ramps up I don't like the heatstamps - im waiting on them too often. Though I fully admit, could be a skill issue. Might just be that early game needs to start you with more or something. We'll see what happens with it in time.
I agree, the fast moving people doesn't quite hit the same.
I would also echo some requests that the districts need some kind of work on customization, Something is lost in the aesthetic
