"Embrace the Frost" decision and Food
Hello to everyone!

What to hear about the expirience of those players, who chose "Embrace the Frost" in the story mode.

How did you get enough food? I played slowly while I figured out the mechanics of the game. And eventually I've noticed that almost all spots of food (and, in fact, all other resources) are finite there. There is only one colony with infinite food and it produces only 300 food, while I need about 1200. So all others sources of the food expired and my cities started to starve.

Eating corpses looks like a radical idea. I started to play on the second difficulty and this difficulty shouldn't demand such actions.

Is there some solution or I just need to go faster through the missions in the story mode? But in this case gameplay feels weird. People went through many hardships, rebuild civilization and eventually died due to lack of food?

I've only just realized the full scale of the problem. I created the discussion because I didn't understand how to continue the story with completely exhausted food deposits. At the moment, I'm just shocked that this is not provided in the game in any way. Now I've started chapter 4 and I don't have any food left on the map. It's just stupid, I can't finish the story. It turns out that you need to hurry to complete each task as quickly as possible, from the very beginning of the game, how strange it is…

again, I wouldn't say you need to "hurry" - if you do, you could clear the story in under 400 weeks easily (maybe even 300), but it's by no means necessary. you just do need to keep in mind that resources are finite. rather, the game kinda pushes this plot point right from the beginning, with how you have too many people and not enough fuel and must expand to account for them. as your city expands, this deficit will only grow. and aside from a handful of generously-sized material deposits (imperial freighter, my beloved), all deposits on the map for everything are very small and will only last a year of constant harvest at best. but 500 weeks is achievable without rushing, and frostland nodes will last that long. 600 weeks is pushing it. 700 weeks, you are expected to have finished the story by then. it's not like the chapters are particularly long.

spoilers: general instructions on what to do each chapter and how long they take: chapter 1 only takes 100 weeks at a leisurely pace - any longer, and new london's coal will run out. plus, old dreadnought is literally 2 zones away. chapter 2 just requires you to survive the next whiteout after you build injectors or make a few more colonies, so that's another 100 weeks. chapter 3 is short - literally just find winterhome. chances are, you've already found winterhome by now. so you just have to wait for the storm to move away, set up a path, and send colonists. 50 weeks. chapter 4 requires you to either grab cores and upgrade the genny, or plug up some leaks, both of which only take ~50 weeks (assuming safe frostbreaking) . chapter 5 can literally be completed on the first week, depending on your chosen victory condition. the absolute longest it takes is 80 weeks if you decide to go the tyrant route but have literally never touched the rules tab in council. everything else is manageable in a dozen or two of weeks - and if you don't manage it in that timespan, you get ejected from office by an angry mob.

I know I've said that the instructions at the top left are more suggestions than commands (in other threads), but you are given time constraints on several chapters, and the instructions themselves don't take long to do, so 500 weeks is pretty reasonable. and the ending cutscene with lily may has her at 14 years old - that's just 700 weeks. if you're taking over 700 weeks... consider hurrying up a bit.

With delivery everything was fine.
The main problem is that the food on the outposts has run out
And whale colony produces only 300 of food, while I need about 1200

then delivery is not fine.

my whaletown has a food delivery of 375.
300 base.
75 from 'extraction stronghold' law.

so things that increase outpost efficiency increase the amount of materials you get from colonies/ settlements.
the docks you build in logistics district say that they increase output from colonies.

this means they are supposed to increase from settlements/colonies.

but they don't.

I also found the same results on the embrace frost branch after exploring everything:
300 food from the fully upgraded outpost + 75 from extraction stronghold bonus,
with the base production of the city of 70 and the dreadnought of 60 it caps at
max 505 indefinet food which will sustains 25250 people on the whole map forever (cities+outsposts together) which is a very low number, if I want more people I see only the cannibalism option,

did anyone find other solutions?

actually progress the story and stop stalling, if you want a long game do utopia mode

You need to explore more and get food outside of your area and upgrading food output/law is also useful and do not invite too many people at the start when you don't need to. But on that note, you are in chapter 2 and already wiped out all the food? How?
I just did that too in chpt 2

Honestly the story was not ment to last much beyond 800 or so weeks. Plus if you wasted a bunch of food by having full stores it can be a problem.

up this topic, Ij ust finish a governor scenario one in survival, at 500 weeks, every single point of food was done, but more, I don't have the waletown on the map.
I don't kill the whale in the prologue, and don't kill it again in the main scenario when i explore the south ouest....
Does anyone had the same problem ? why ?

embrace the frost is very more difficult than against the frost
in against the frost you have
- like infinite fuel
- infinite food
- infinite materials

in embrace the frost you have
- like infinite fuel
- not a bad amounts of materials
- in food you have in the ass

embrace the frost in captain mode will looked like a run

Normally, the map of the main scenario is always the very same, with points of interest exactly at the same place. The whale spot is also a spot where you can choose to disregard them and take the equipment (for steam cores, if I remember correctly? ), so maybe you took that without noticing?
