Thinking of buying. Asking for opinions/comments.
So, I really liked the first game. I have had this on my wishlist for a while, and I am thinking of getting it.

I have been researching the forums and reviews to see what people are saying.

I realize if I get it and totally don't like it, I will have a little time to still request a refund.

I guess what I am curious about. The regular vs Deluxe. Anyone have any recommendations about which version to get?:

I have always gone with the top package for games I want on Steam in the past, but I feel like I have been burned now a few times, with games like Cities Skylines II.

If they had some kind of upgrade package, I would just get the base game, and then get the upgrade if I liked it, but it looks like you have to get one or the other.

EDIT: I guess also coming to the forum and the first things I see are pinned duscussions:

Temporary Fix - Audio.....
DX12 Issues....
Download not starting.....
Basic troubleshooting for crashes.....

Seems like there are a lot of issues/problems?

The deluxe edition now only includes the price for three DLCs which are not released yet. The DLCs will of course be available separately, probably also in form of a deluxe upgrade or season pass. So as of now, I don't see a reason to buy the deluxe, just go with the regular one.

As for the tech support forum: The posts are of course all from peope that experience issues. Many others (e.g. me) play the game flawlessly and have no reason to post there ...

There are opinions and comments in a zillion threads all over the forum. You can read the threads for the technical issues and see that some people have them, some don't, and the devs are in the process of addressing them.

I got the regular. The game is just ok so far. Less intuitive than the previous game. Design sort of gets in the way of function. It's a pretty mess. It's not as addictive as the first game. When I look at the structures on the map it's very hard to tell what is what which means you have to constantly click stuff to see what they are producing.

It is hard to recommend a particular version of the game since I don´t know what games you like.

For me Frostpunk 2 is a 10/10, the story, the atmosphere, the art style and the universe is just off the charts good. I just finished the game a second time and got super invested in the people I had been given responsibility for.

I haven´t encountered any huge technical issues and I play on a laptop with a 3060.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'm on the fence about how i feel about it, if you enjoy more paradox style games then you'll like FP2. It's different to the first game, not in a bad way, just not everyone who liked the first game is enjoying this one.

It really depends on what other games you enjoy, it's a bigger scale city sim now.

so I was the biggest paradox fanboy, until the recent debacle with city skylines too. But I love all those types of games, basically anything city building or logic and distribution, etc. thank you for the feedback.

Thank you, perfect answer as far as regular versus deluxe, that was my main dilemma. As far as the bug issues, I wasn’t even referring to the tech-support for him, I was kind of looking at what they pinned at the top of this discussion, forum, and yes, I do realize not everybody experiences the same problems

I'd also recommend to think about what you liked about the first game.

If you would be disappointed to feel less invested in individual lives (a few dozen people are just a rounding error in FP2), then i would recommend against buying, since this seems to be the no.1 complaint for returning players.

(The different scale of FP2 may get you invested in your city in different ways - but if you bounce off this difference in scale at the start it may be hard to reach that point).

From what i've seen, most DX12 issues are caused by 3 things:
Extremely outdated windows
Extremely outdated GPU drivers
Or the game attempting to run on an integrated GPU

if neither of these are a problem for you, you shouldn't have any problems with it

Sigh, first thing I see when I load up is that is does NOT support my 5120x1440 resolution. :(

Just remember that the ragers are the most vocal of anyone on the forums, the rest of us are just enjoying the game and not flipping out in the discussions with our entitled egos.

You can buy the base game and go for a season pass for the upcoming two DLC's if the game grows on you.
I got the Deluxe Edition to play the game before launch and it worked just fine for me on High settings (my RIG is intel core i7 10k, 16 RAM, nVidia 2070 Super) with no stutters, crashes, or freezes.
Of course there are some minor bugs, I won't lie. But it wasn't something major that effectively locked me out of playing the game and enjoying it.

The music is great just like in the first one, but you don't build small houses for 10 people, you build entire districts to house hundreds in one go. Frostpunk 2 is a lot bigger than its predecessor and population sometimes booms and you need to adapt quickly.
You got new challenges, map missions in the Frostlands, factions you need to balance out, relations you have to maintain.

My advice is to watch a gameplay, maybe even try it out for an hour or so, then ask for a refund if you're unhappy. But to me it was a good game that gave me a good story, the freedom to explore the Frostlands in peace, delve into relationships, and build a giant prosperous city.
ViraCorp Sep 22, 2024 @ 11:11am
Yeah, I think not for me.

It doesn’t even support my resolution that I want to play at, and the interface and building system seem clunky and unintuitive compared to the first game.

Even after you frost break an area, there’s no visual indication that I can see that the area is frost broken.

So I gave it a try, but I have requested a refund already. Thank you again everybody for all your comments, appreciate it.
