Adaptive pump being annoying

When using the Adaptive pump which can use both coal and oil, you can't chose which one to use, and it'll always use your oil first even if you have a massive surplus of coal.
There is no button to change this and it seems like a mistake/oversight

Nope, it will still use whatever is the most efficient, and oil is the most efficient no matter what you set it to

maybe? but when you have tier 2 you get the choice of optimization, and it generally seems to work

Didn't work in my case. It still prioritized burning oil above all, then switched to coal afterward

Literally half of my reasoning to embrace frost was that I was told I'd be able to use all sources of fuel, but the I'm not actually allowed to do it. Bug?

Either you didn't understand how it works (you have to do 3 cores worth upgrade first and then you have to switch the fuel type optimization manually) or you encountered a bug. I was trying all three fuel types and it worked fine.

I can switch fuels just fine is only available after you build the second upgrade, Not just research it, The furnace does switch automatically or mix the fuel if there is no enough of that fuel to supply the demand Is quite simple.
