White outs on citezen mode
What on earth is going wrong with whiteouts? are steam generators broken? I had 50,000 coal in the bank and it vanished. I'm not sure I want to continue playing until the whiteouts are fixed. This is clearly the game breaking since the update, this never happened before.

Buddy, if you are deficient 500 coal per week that will only last 20 weeks
Most whiteout early game last 30-40 weeks and the generator overdrive lasts about 20 weeks give or take 2

If you hover your mouse over your fuel stats during the storm you can view how much time you have before your run out of fuel

This doesn't also include oil which is more efficient than coal having a burn ratio of something like 1 oil for like 3 heat or something...

OR the deposit your using might have ran out depending if your using adaptive pumps with coal for heat

so this was never an issue in the previous update. steam power never turned off!

Are playing utopia or the campaign?

Because there is a known bug for the tier 3 adaptive pumps not accepting steam or coal
Also the progression version of the generator only takes oil so... it can't take steam

When the whiteout come, there is something write for steam and coal, like cold in steam pipe, not working efficiently, so when the whiteout is here it's more you depend only of your stock.

It sounds like there are two possible bugs you're mentioning.. Steam stopped working and coal disappeared. Do you have a save from before the whiteout to see what happened? First mouseover the incoming whiteout to see what effects it will have. Does it have anything related to steam or coal? Second, what level of vanished are you talking about for the coal? Did your consumption go up to like 10000ish or was the coal just gone in the first week without a reason? I'd be interested in knowing what your generator report screen says. Is it using the coal first before using steam? How much heat does it say you need?

consumption dropped to - 1000, despite having actuators, asbestos, generator adaptors 2, a bunch of oil stored and coal liquidation and steam and coal with a deep deposit. I watched 200,000 stored resources clear on the following whiteout and people still died. I also now have bio waste and this increased my food losses? this is not at all easy mode. I seem to be unable to play the game at all either because i'm missing something or its bugged.

What was your consumption prior to the whiteout. Whiteouts lower the temp by at least 40 degrees or 4 temp levels which is 80 for every single district. So like 12 districts will cost an extra 960 base heat. Coal by default is 1 to 1 and oil is 1 to 2 on base. It’s not hard to see your cost increase by 1000 on a city during whiteouts. On top of whiteouts having a special detriment to them like less production etc.

Isn't citizen mode meant to make the game easier though? Also this has only started happening today. Previously I was getting to week 600 before collapse now its collapsing by 300.

consumption was like 700 or so total input into the generator. if you can't generate enough heat for all districts it seems riding out the repeated 140 deaths per week is now my only option. I re ran the save from week 50 twice and aggressively changed strategies (one focusing on generator upgrades and heat retention, the other accommodating for/rolling with the planned deaths) both times to try and build up faster, horde more resources and I bottled it in 200 weeks on easy mode.

Same experience for me. I had two upgrade steam districts, one coal, and importing oil. My storage was maxed. As soon as the whiteout hit, everything in stock was gone in a few weeks. I'm not sure if I want to continue the game if all I can concentrate on is stockpiling more and more coal, oil..etc. And not do any other city expansion. I would like a little better balance on easy mode while learning the game. Unless this is a bug or something I am doing wrong or not understanding.
I understanding how with the cold front, I with not be doing +320 into storage. I thought even if it dropped by 100% I would only be -320 a week and it would take 156 weeks to burn through the stockpile.
I will load a previous save and try to understand how or what used 50,000 units in a couple weeks while even working extra ships mining more. Game was going great and I was having fun until this happened.

just a tip , whiteout in the game is so brutal because it is the MAIN BOSS of this game. you can close some district and used the stockpiles to minimize heat demand
Albreo Oct 3, 2024 @ 9:53am
The main cause might be that you build too many district buildings. This kind of building doesn't benefit from a heat adjacent bonus or heating hub bonus. You will want to leave your housing district as bare as possible, and never build anything unnecessary on it. You also want to take advantage of the heating hub as much as possible by making it touch as many as 4 districts at a time. By doing the above your housing district heat requirement will be 0 during whiteout.

The logistic district doesn't work during whiteout. Remember to turn it off every time (except if you have lv2 settlements outside) Goods resource is not critical for survival you can turn industrial district off and dip into negative.

Build more fuel stockpile you should have at least 150k to spare.

Also, the third-tier generator is not a bug. It can use other types of fuel when oil is not available. The game tells you that the generator will use the most efficient fuel first in the tooltips on the loading screen which is oil.
