I went from plenty of food to no food.
I've beat the game once and decided to play again. I did so much better on this run but then factions decided they hated me, and then I had no food. Looking around I ran out of food completely and the only food left was the infinite wail town, and the infinite food node I can't use because I went with choice of using oil and coal and steam instead of just relying on oil. Of all my gripes I think that being able to use both colonies and those deep extraction nodes should be allowed.

I don't understand what's locking you out of using the infinite food node?

Just research your Deep Drills and then slot them in..... done deal...?

There seems to be a bug that prevents deep drills from working sometimes... happened to me, too, but I could correct the issue by disabling and re-enabling the deep drill once. After that it worked as expected.

Unless something changed it said I couldn’t research deep drills because I went with whatever the adapt choice is because it seems silly to put all your eggs in one basket like the stalwarts wanted.

If you go the path of adaptation then you are supposed to harvest food outposts on frostland map. Just build logistic district on every possible spot, build vanguard logistic bays, research all of frostland tree attuned to adaptation and you won't run out of food for long time.
If you make logistic district work emergency shifts then you get more scouts if you need.

Adaptation is to go 'horizontal' ie. expand all around the map and harvest resources. Progress is not as good at this and you would have harder time, although in story mode it's kinda hard to run out of anything before story ends, 2000k weeks+ and 60k+ population on utopia is when you need to employ some radical measures.

Oh! Story mode. I incorrectly assumed when they said "Beat the game and started a new game" that they upgraded to Utopia Mode. Being the true way to play without scripted chapter events to shake things up.

I have deep drills but otherwise going full Adaptation. Been working like a charm mixing and matching only minor bits and pieces while still mostly focusing on one primary set of zeitgeists. The only thing that gets locked in on utopia mode is the kind of generator upgrade path you have access to.

The moment you choose your Generator upgrade I choice, you have committed.

Anyway...yes they locked themselves out of drills and now must relay on Frostland outposts strictly.

Are you just supposed to beat the game in under 400 weeks then?
Red Sep 30, 2024 @ 7:52am
I should say that again that unless I missed things you only have one permanent food source for 3 colonies and however many outposts… 70 frost land teams twiddling their thumbs.

Is it even possible to run out of food in 400 weeks? I completed Story mode on Captain difficulty in over 900 weeks. And food was not a problem.

Have you consumed all the food points on map and not stockpiled it? If you have an surplus in any resource, and there is no room for it. It just disappears.

And I'm assuming those are fully upgraded (using two cores) to their full efficiency state?

It absolutely shouldn't be. Even without deep mining drills. Because my first story mode play through was Embrace the Frost so I never had access. I was able to get more than enough food from the Frostlands and the scripted minor cities to feed everyone without having hunger issues. There was an endless whale colony. A mushroom cave. Lots and lots and lots of deer. A place where I let deer or fish repopulate which became endless later on..... I mean that should be plenty. I even took everyone into my city from the frostlands and had the map fully uncovered well before the last few chapters. I had a crazy amount of frostland teams though

I only found one endless colony and that was the whale town even with the map fully uncovered.

I shall start a new run and keep in mind the bit about the food waste.

But there is A LOT of non endless sources of food. U should use them

Note the the story mode isn’t really set up to go beyond like 700 weeks.
And to take care about being capped on food or other things as it still takes the full amount even if your capped.
