Being able to send 5k resources instantly to outposts for free is OP
I mean it's a survival game. Shouldn't there be some sort of drawback? Shouldn't this require scouts?

Also, why can't we dismantle/fabricate automatons? Or something spicier like sledges to carry extra resources?

yeah, it's a bit of a problem if you look at it too long.

Max 250 unit trade route: takes a week for items to move.
One button press: 5k of stuff teleports over.

items actually move on a daily basis, but yes, filling up a warehouse in bulk is powerful as well as nice. however, it should be noted that "5k resources" is honestly not a lot in this game. and there's usually more than enough other things to hog your attention for the trade routes to be helpful. like, do you want to go to the trade interface every week to ship over consumed materials? or would you rather just use a slider to auto-send a smaller amount over time and never have to think about it again (until it inevitably becomes a problem again)?

the only times I ever bother with manually shunting over stacks of resources is when I first make a colony in story/add stockpiles to a colony in utopia builder (colonies in utopia builder don't come with a stockpile btw) and... actually, that is the only time I ever bother with manually shunting over stacks. it's just not very useful, and eats up too much headspace. I'd rather just build a skyrail and not have to worry about it. the less time I have to look at old dreadnought, the better. and I imagine most players treat it the same way. it only looks OP until you go to actually use it and find it's actually very impractical.

It might not be a lot, and isn't used all that often (though, I've been known to max stockpile oil in the producing colony and shunt it over during a whiteout), but it's the numbers point of the matter. 250 max out:-> 5k should take a long time to move.

Else, why have tech to expand the throughput? If I can keep demand low, then shunting over 20k of oil to fill the storage in a few clicks is less time consuming than rebalancing trade and dealing with a cap every time something changes.

It just feels lazy and a shortcut to dealing with the logistics part of the game. It is mostly unimportant for this game, but it is there.

no, I get it, like I said, it s oddly powerful, being able to move tons of resources for basically free instantaneously when you normally have to research better roads, build better roads, and then research and build upgrades to allow the routes just to get a couple hundred extra resources. it's just, it ain't OP, because you still want those roads and supply docks. it's super strong all 3 times you use it, and then you never use it again because trade routes exist. something that's OP invalidates the inferior methods, and bulk transport doesn't invalidate roads.

the time spent micro-managing the levels every time supply and demand shifts a tiny amount is a valid complaint, though. boy I sure do wish the "meet demands" button worked without having to set supply to 0 every time lol. next patch for sure, trust.

A few minor changes would make it unified and better.

The 'meets demand' button should just auto adjust that side (including if it's a producer) of the transfers, as long as the throughput space exists. (per item marked as meets demand). That way, when you get a stable state location (like the stories oil colony) where no building and no pop change happens, the game can automate the change in oil transfers without you needing to bother with it. Other locations that have multiple changes, would still necessitate checking once in a while to see if one or both sides have hit storage max or both have gone negative.

On the flip side, 'move 5k' could be a process whereby 5k of the item is placed in a queue and the leftover throughput is used to move that amount until it's all gone. A few clicks and you know that eventually, that amount will be moved.

Need a Snow Piercer train, and reasons to build and expand the track.
