GUIDE: Fully Steam Powered City - Utopia Builder - Week 600
Since a large majority of the FP2 players are currently having issues with figuring out how to obtain the same levels of steam power that I've reached in order to more than power my city during a whiteout, I'm making a guide with pictures to help everyone along when they're trying to go for a clean fuel source game.

I'm not sure if it's how my brain works or if its poor reading comprehension or poor explanations of the mechanics, or if maybe it's not as intuitive for the larger majority as it is for me, but I managed to grasp this concept pretty easily and wanted to share it with everyone in case it helps!

So let's begin!

NOTE: This is only viable for heading down the Adaptation Route
Otherwise for Progress you will be dealing with oil. Lots of it.

First, I'd like to show everyone where the research path for these generator upgrades are.
You will find them, as pictured below, in the HEAT tab of the RESEARCH TREE interface, unlocked after building the research building into any housing district and keeping it powered on.

Generator Upgrade I: Adaptive Pumps

You will see that this requires 1 CORE, 200 available workers, 200 Heat Stamps, and 100 Fabricators. Once you have researched it, you must then build it from the buildings interface into your Generator slot. And then once it finishes building, it will do exactly what it says it does: "The Generator can run on Oil, Coal, or Steam."

Once that's complete, to just to the north of that in the same upgrade tree tab, you'll find the next tier, which is the important one to maintaining enough steam for optimal performance.

Generator Upgrade II: Adaptive Injectors

You will see this requires 3 CORES, 200 available workers, 300 Heat Stamps, and 150 Fabricators. Once you have researched it, you must then build it from the buildings interface into your Generator second slot. And then once it finishes building, it will do exactly what it says it does: "Unlocks the Intake Optimization Generator Bonus, which increases the Heat Yield of the selected fuel type".

Once that's complete, to just to the north of that in the same upgrade tree tab, you'll find the final tier, which may be important to having a fully functional end game city powered exclusively by steam (though I haven't yet figured out if stocking up enough cores is even possible without story mode options that present themselves later).

Generator Upgrade III: Symbiotic Regulator (for Adaptation path)

The most glaring thing here is that you will see this requires 40 whole CORES, 200 available workers, 650 Heat Stamps, and 325 Fabricators. Which is pretty damn steep.
I have been collecting every core I've come across so we'll see if it's actually viable. Once you have researched it, you must then build it from the buildings interface into your Generator third and final slot. And then once it finishes building, it will do exactly what it says it does: "Oil, Steam, and Coal yield (even MORE) more heat" and additional unlocks an extra ability "Symbiotic Support Generator Bonus" - "Which gives a passive boost to your choice of: Housing, Heavy Industry, OR Food Production Districts." Increasing the output of one of ALL types of that district passively, which can be toggled at will in your Generator interface.

Now that you know WHERE these upgrades are, how to research them, what's required to build them, and where to put them to actually get the effects... here's what that looks like.

Here is one of my three Steam Extraction Districts at work. You'll notice I'm also benefiting from several bonuses that help this particular play style excel. I'll leave it up to you to find your own way to make this viable for your city and playstyle. This single district is pumping out 206 steam now with all math accounted for (In hindsight I should have been running ONLY the steam districts I need now that I've seen steam CAN actually run out and isn't infinite...which seems very odd considering..... in 84 weeks I'll need a completely different source of fuel up and running...ugh).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3339084368

You put all that together and I'm pumping 618 units of steam to my Generator, out of the 196 that I currently require for the heat yield it produces. (Time to shut off those other 2 districts for now).

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3339084546

Here you'll see that my heat yield output is more than matching the heat demands of 490, and were I able to stockpile steam, I'd have an extensive overage.

And finally...here's where the magic happens. The Blessed Generator.
Here's where all the math comes together and you see that with the Upgrade 1 Adaptive Pumps + Upgrade II Intake Optimization it is costing me 196 of my 618 units I can pump into the Generator, which is being converted efficiently into a Heat Yield of 490 in order to match my requirements (since, again, we can't currently stockpile steam).

When a whiteout hits, likely all I'll have to do is turn my other steam districts on and watch as it rolls over me while I conduct my business as usual. If I do need additional oomph for some reason, the generator Overdrive can be toggled which DOES make my steam even more efficient than it already is and kick out even more heat yield temporarily, which is enough to get me through these storms at the moment. Generator upgrade III will probably require even less steam withdrawn for even more heat yield. I'll update this once I find out more.

EDITED to better inform this is for path Adaptation plays.

Fixed! Thank you for catching that. I am new to Steam screenshots and all the hoops required to post them like this 😅

Should be working now.

So far this steam set up is still going strong as I explore the Frostlands for additional options.

This is getting out of control >.<

I am now making WAY too much steam but have more than enough capacity to keep this going for 30,000 weeks still even with 6 X Geothermal plants going at the same time. I'm now currently capable of VERY comfortably weathering any whiteout (though sometimes my materials or food take a temporary but manageable hit depending on the type of storm).

Of note, I DO have the Adaptation Cornerstone active Only the Strong Prevail, which not only nearly completely removes my need for heat, but it scales based on how many buildings are in your district.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3340154757

An empty district will have a bonus of 60 heat.
Add one building and it will gain 60 more for 120 heat reduction.
Add a third building and it will jump up by 60 MORE for 180 total heat reduction in that district.

But even without that, I think 1830 steam power is going to be PLENTY sufficient to reach my 2k weeks of play pretty comfortably. I just have to keep oil and coal far away from this colony.

I am harvesting cores from 3 different spots that have 10 cores to provide total so I'll have my Generator 3 upgrade pretty soon, I will update more once I see how that effects all this.
