make sure that "Upscaling Quality" is set to "Ultra Quality". Apart from that, the game might still upscale from a lower resolution on MacOS.
Don't get me wrong , those Apple Silicon chips (M1 Pro, here) are quite amazing, but rendering games at native resolution might take more than the integrated graphics can handle.
it's not affecting anything. prabably is a bug or something.
To make things worse the max resolution is capped at 1700p, making the game look like Pong 1.0 on my 16" MacBook Pro.
MacBooks all run at quite high resolutions, but run in a scaled mode that has the layout of quarter res (or similar) with extremely HiDPI but they are in fact running at the higher res. This is like running a Windows PC in 200% or 150% scaling mode.
So for example the 15" MacBook Pro (I know it's an old computer but the numbers are more straightforward to explain) ran at 2880x1800, but at scaling so that you could use it basically like a 1440x900 display; the 13" model did the same thing, running at 2560x1600 but with the layout of a 1280x800 display.
Frostpunk 2 takes this "looks like" resolution to be the native resolutions of the display! This means that *at best* the game is running at quarter-res. In practice it is much worse because the game is running with upscaling by default. MetalFX and TSR are great... but they should be scaling to the native resolution of the display.
Right now it is like you are playing on a 4K monitor, but the game perceives it as a 1080p monitor. By turning upscaling on, you are scaling from 540p or 720p *to 1080p* and then again via display scaling to 4K, so everything is blurry. Does this make more sense to you? (Addressing the devs here.)

Thank you, and have a great day!
