Servants dying from overwork
Is there a way to prevent servants from dying from overwork in large numbers?

Have you tried not overworking them?

Sounds reasonable... problem is, they started dying from overwork shortly after they appeared in my city. I did nothing to them at that point.

Then don't go full merit and create a "servants" class.

Nah, OP's right. There is literally a single interaction with that community which is to overwork them. If you never used that, then it makes no sense why your people are dying randomly. This is confusing to a player and something you want to have control over, since your goal is to grow servants' community.

Consider how it's implemented with other Zeitgeists. Apex Workers and Machine Attendants give you respective arcs where you can choose a bonus in return for periodic deaths. It's never forced on you.

The current implementation of servants with them essentially being a gimmick makes Equality straight up better. Like, why do you care about efficiency when you can have infinite money AND infinite goods - eliminating the need for materials either; the only tradeoff being injured from Levelling which are getting thrown out of the city annually with your crazy population growth ensuring they are instantly replaced...

You've created a class of literal debt slaves, with all that entails. Why are you surprised when their owners decide to overwork them to the point that some keel over regardless of wether you further encourage it?

Your choice here is in NOT legalising de facto slavery in the first place.

Never go Full Reta-... I mean Merit. Well, the 2 words are synonymous.
It's like the Duel law in FP 1. It sure have a nice positive effect but, once active, death follows.

That's what happens when you decide to create a new class of people officially worth less than others.

Hmm... I think, I can pretty much relate... one month after the release. ;]
Ah, when you discover Agile sprints and such actually are more like a marathon... I can understand.

Rather than doing perfectly, doing your best is all people can decently ask from you. No product is perfect and it can be tremendously hard to live up to the expectations of a sequel to a great game. Nothing wrong in not delivering perfect products. Don't stress yourself out, it wouldn't be beneficial to anyone anyway.
