Lover of Building Games 50 hrs in; Review Pending
I love games like this; to give you an idea:
  • Satisfactory: 372 hours (On Steam) // 585 hours (On Epic)
  • Foundry: 450 hours
  • Empyrion Galactic Survival: 412 hours
  • No Man's Sky: 253 hours
  • Dyson Sphere Program: 177 hours
  • The Riftbreaker: 60 hours

Granted, it's not exactly a factory game; but not everything I listed is. It's a Build, Discover, and Expand sort of game. I've mostly been picking through the systems in my first play through a good bit. I'm about to start up my second play through to try out the game in a very different light.

While you can play this game as a very chill and relaxed farming game; you can also straight up play up a tower defense mode. Now it's that Tower Defense part I haven't exactly dipped into yet. And that is what I'm going to try out next. At this point I've gotta a really solid understanding of the game's systems. While it has a lot of flaws; the foundation is genuinely far more solid than you might think.

I'm not ready to give an deep review just yet, as I really do want to see what the defense portion offers (and more importantly when people should try it). You may have picked up that I'm 50 hour in and never actually touched it; because you do have the option to just straight up disable anything you don't want to really deal with.

I felt the hazards and dangers can make for an extremely overwhelming experience when the game does so little explaining of its nuances. That to me feels more like challenges to face when you wish for things to be more harsh and inhospitable. I do like that those options are there. The game can be as intense as you want it to be. I appreciate that.

Is the game perfect? No; but it is good though. it does still feel very Early Access. But it's very dedicated to its Breath of the Wild shtick. I do feel like I can get a lot out of this game, but HOW MUCH is still yet to be determined.

I would adore more complex building features; but the devs are already keenly aware of that. The game has a lot of architecture, and it's be very nice to make similar things. My wish list would be:
  • Elevated Platforms
  • Pillars and Beams
  • Stairs
  • Floors
  • Roofs
  • Elevators
  • Water channels and spillways to make Aqueducts
  • More powerful pumps for water transportation if desired
  • Levies

I've made a lot of suggestions on the Discord already.

How do you have 450 hours in Foundry? It's not out yet.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write out your thoughts!

I'll go over this feedback and make sure we have it all logged,

I have a copy from itch.io I bought a long while back. Not sure if its still purchasable, but the experience I have is mostly in version 0.4.3.4462 which came out in 9/9/2022

And I'll be sure to offer many more thoughts as I progress of course. :) Just giving a 'how I feel right now' update, as 50h isn't a small taste.
