How do you get food?

Apart from the small cactus you put water on to get fruit Once!
How do you get food please?

I did the food quest at the start, I got the Amaranth seed, planted them, the plants grew up, but they only give seeds not fruit,

I've been playing the game all day, and have no idea how to grow food

At the start it is kinda limited, but eventually you get things like different kinds of figs, festival cakes, and different kinds of berries. If your in the canyons, you can dig up figs and festival cakes and berries come in all different area.

To add to this, the seeds are actually edible aswell.

Is it right that this is a growing/farming game, where you cannot grow any food! ,so no fruit or veg?

Doesn't that go against the entire point of this game, to grow stuff to survive?
Making food is one of the most important aspec's of survival game and is missing.

Even in single player, I have ran out of food, I've eatten all my seeds, I have nothing left to eat, so I keep dying.

You can grow plants and tress to get the fruits and seeds. Later you can get the stuff to make festival cakes. Not really a farming game... more like just growing what you need for quest. But most of it is edible. Some uses you water up, while others add water or magic points.
