How do Wellstones work?
I unlocked them from the skill tree, and then had the option of I guess upgrading a mystic stone that I unblocked into a wellstone. It used up all the materials required when I did it, but I got no notification for anything upon completion and nothing seems to have changed.

Is a wellstone something I have to build separately somewhere and place? Or does the mystic stone now behave differently?

The tooltip sorta says to place them around the oasis or something but I have no idea where you even obtain the wellstone itself.

Tad confused.

I just dropped my first to play with too, I was confused also as the other spring options didn't seem to really do anything. My camp area had a mountain not far with some elevation, and dropped the Wellstone up on an angle, and created a path running back down to my main spring as a little tribute. It seems to let you go so far away with it, so it's definitely linked to the main spring.

Each spring has a set amount of wellstones that can link to them. Another source of water.

There is a certain distance from the spring that the wellstone needs to be. As I've been increasing my spring, I realize that I put my wellstones too close to the spring. Walk around while placing. It will be red if it is too far away.

Also, you can upgrade the wellstones as well - increase water output, etc. They are useful in expanding the plantable areas.

When you create a wellstone it appears in your bag. They do not stack. If your bag is full it will fall to the ground in front of you.
Once crafted you need to place the wellstone same as you would plant a seed. The distance you can place one from a core spring is listed in the spring info along with how many wellstone slots are available for that core spring.
Wellstones generate water just like a spring does. It takes a while to build up and you might not see the water immediately after placing the stone. Wellstones can be upgraded similar to core springs at a reduced cost for some of the upgrades and I believe less water output in general. They are a good supplementary water source if you have maxed out your main springs upgrades, planned tree placement poorly, or wish to increase the flow rate of your epic river network.

Ok that makes sense. I did find it in my bag I dont know how I missed it. So is the purpose of the wellstones to basically increase the distance that a spring can pump water, so that eventually you're digging rivers to connect all the springs?

Sort of. I think someone else described it best as a well. Hence, wellstone.

I do not ever get a wellstone placed in my bag. It consumes the resourses, but I assumed it was an upgrade that wasn't really worth it, because I've never gotten a stone, either in my bag or on the ground. It wasn't until my friend got one that I learned it was a physical item.
