steam cloud pc to deck issue
Something is really off with steam cloud for me I think? PC and deck says cloud saves are up to date, but cant access pc save file on deck. Save file just says NO DATA. I tried to make new save on deck and its visible on pc, but I can't delete it for some reason, just nothing happens and original pc progress still not showing. Multiple retries to launch the game on PC and then on deck to resync progress arent helping, it always says that cloud save is up to date while its not

It seems that this sync issue was fixed. It now correctly pulled my save from my PC to my Deck.

Hey there, thanks for sharing!

This MAY be something related to the lack of current Steam Deck Verification. I'll share this with the QA/Dev team for them to look into further as we're working on a patch for official Steam Deck Verification soon.

Alright, thank you! In the meantime I'll try to look more into this and will keep you updated if something on my end will fix the issue

It is not - as the Deck syncs cloud saves just fine for unplayable/unverified games.

I have seen this issue with one other game on deck (Mystia's Izakaya) and some people on that game's steam forum have posted technical details you may want to find and read. It's something to do with the windows path not lining up between Proton on the deck and actual Windows.

Well, judging by the threads on that other game the issue was connected to proton and solvable for one person by moving savefile for one folder to the other on deck. Seems like this will just transfer files once and Ill had to manually do it every time. Also overall situation isnt really clear because that game had issues with Steam Auto-Cloud that you can see on steamdb and Victory Heat Rally cloud settings seems fine on steamDB. I'll just copy two posts from that game forums here so developer might get some insight.

According to steamdb[steamdb.info], the game doesn't have cloud save configuration, which means steam syncs the default folder in <steam>/userdata/<userid>/1584090/remote, and I can confirm that saves are there

Which means the game is manually copying data there from %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Epicomic\Touhou Mystia Izakaya

This can also explain the in-game waring about "steam corrupting save data" (which it doesn't, you're simply doing it in super weird way and can do partial overwrite of data while steam syncs)

Anyway, looks like the game has currently broken logic to sync the data from steam default location to the game location on start

well I did get my current save on PC copied to Deck somehow. it seems the sync function is working properly but Deck was having some issues when trying to overwrite/move the synced save to the local save.

You can try getting into desktop mode and open the file exploer, click on the triple line on top right corner and show the hidden files. Then search for files having "Mystia" in filename, you may find the synced save by this, and then copy it to

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1584090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Epicomic/Touhou Mystia Izakaya/Memory/Save/BetaV9/

it somehow worked for me, at least it worth a try anyway

after further examination I have no luck in fixing this from my end. Tried reinstalling game and deleting save files from game folder. Tho it looks like PC saves are uploading correctly as my progress was restored and all the other broken savefiles are gone, deck still can't pick anything from cloud as there is no restored progress, both pc one and progress I made separately on deck

I'm having the same problem.

Started a new save file on the Steam Deck, synced and loaded it up on my PC, played some more and when I went to load it up on the Deck, it was as if I never played on my PC despite it being "Up to date" with the console being online.

To add insult to injury, the Steam Deck then OVERWROTE the newer save on the cloud with this older one.

Also just for clarity, when I knew I was going to be going back to the Deck I turned it on ahead of time to make sure it synced. Since I maybe had no more than an hour of playtime I might just wipe everything and start again from PC and see what happens.

Same issue here.

I'm kinda confused as to what's actually happening.

When I finally got back to check my PC, the progress I had made on PC was still there. This was the save that originally started on my Steam Deck, picked up later on my PC, and then for whatever reason wouldn't sync back to the Deck and had thought that the Deck overwrote it after loading it up and exiting the game. So, I had thought that maybe it wasn't syncing the original save files. but it had worked the first time; It's just been subsequent times.

Also, from this file on my PC, on the file select screen, the name on the file is blank. If I select it the name appears and the save file is actually there.

For now I've had to disable cloud saving.

Same. I started the game on the Deck and it synced to my Windows PC just fine, but it won't sync the other way around and the Deck still has my initial progress instead of the updated progress from PC.

Sounds like the folder mismatch posted above could be helpful to look into, though I'm having trouble finding any files I could copy to the save folder manually. The "remote" folder for this game's ID only has a cache file from what I found, but I could be looking in the wrong place.

Will just disable sync and avoid playing this on the Deck for the time being. It's run generally fine actually playing it on the Deck (aside from some inconsequential visual garbage outside the refresh area since the game is 16:9 and the Deck is 16:10). Hopefully it'll get resolved soon and be verified compatible.

ill up the thread for devs to notice us

I hadn't seen this thread, and I created one with this info in Bug reports, but since I see that this thread is more active I'm sharing it here, to see if I can be of help to other users or provide useful information for a future fix.

The game is uploading to the cloud the contents of the:
[Game install folder]\save] folder, which in reality seems not to be used for saves, instead of:
"C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\VHR_THE_FINAL\save"

In this, the "steamcloud.vdf" file does not appear, which would confirm that the correct data is being uploaded to the cloud.

I understand from this that it is a question of configuring steamcloud with the correct new path. I think that the path of the folder that it updates may be from an old version.

Just chiming in to mention that I am experiencing this issue today as well.
My save data is not syncing across devices.

Have you ever played the demo? I believe the save folder in Local/VHR_THE_FINAL is from that, and the save folder in the game's directory is actually the one being utilized.

Perhaps the game is still looking to upload a save from the demo's save folder (Local/VHR_THE_FINAL) rather than the one in the game's install directory. Could explain why Steam Deck progress is uploaded to the cloud but PC progress isn't.
