also mod support is built directly into the game, so the game's replayability and longevity are much better than the original.
From what i think i could understand the game will be way easier to mod and uploading your customized avatars will be a thing a little like VR Chat, but the difference is the fact that when you put your hands on your chest they are not gonna clip through your virtual avatar body since there is some kind of virtual distance scaling of some kind at work.
Not only that, but think about the game like some kind of garry's mod of VR or at least the beginning of what might eventually become a VR garry's mod.

This video speak about it.
They also invested the majority of the money from Bonework toward research and development along with the development of Bonelab. They are one if not the only studio with the principal goal of trying to improve the VR industry above profit like microtransactions etc...
It's normally what is required when a new market/product/standard is first being introduced, it need people to help it at taking off otherwise it might become stagnant and die.
Since major gaming company dont really want to invest into the VR market and develop big games for it. The VR industry need some people to do it and like with the first consoles, PCs, it require some people to take the risks and try to improve it.
The VR market even when they released improved headsets within the last couple of years, it's still kinda stagnant so it really need some kind of push to keep it moving foward like what Bonelab team is trying to do.
This is hardly a game like anything people are used to. This is the start of a platform for content creation. If you missed out on the story. You, me, all of us who beat the story, optionally part of a pseudo ARG where we all build a new future for the game, as the game itself expands. IF you are interested in creating content for a game i assume for free
