Yeah I can attest to this being the state of my set up as well because I have a relatively small area to play with and I dont want to hit my controllers on stuff, I put my back leg up against something in my room and use that to orient myself so I dont hit anything, though it does still happen occasionally.
also I don't know about you guys but my HDMI cables get shredded every now and then because Im still rocking an HTC vive and there is a clasp on the headset that clamps down on the HDMI connector when I turn my head upwards and it makes me occasionally have to buy new cables just from wear and tear.
I don't know if that's just a normal experience for VR like buying new face foams when they degrade or if its just old headset skill issue.
This is how I do it. Looking forward to the Index wireless adapters, but until then this is perfectly fine for me.
I keep it real simple, if I am doing a short session (like an hour or two?) I'll just run the wire up the back of my shirt. If I know I am going to do a lot of stuff and achievement hunt or otherwise just go for unlockables and be in for like three hours or maybe four, I'll run the wire up the back of a bra too so it stays extra snug and in place. I never really run into the issue of mumifying myself in wires, though I certainly could with my 30 ft wire and playing so close to my pc. I think my habit of stomping my feet periodically to get the blood flowin' doubles as a "hey, untangle yourself!"
You just kind of learn various tricks as you go, or find shortcuts. Oculus users also can pull out Virtual Desktop which runs you like $20 and cuts out the wire assuming you have a good local wifi and preferably a wired connection. I did a run through on some bonelab levels with it and while I had some jitters it wasn't terrible but not worth the effort for me.
