THATS THE ENTIRE POINT
the promised 2 years of active bug fixes and development and a fully fleshed out sdk but instead the abandoned the game and forced the users to make everything them selves because they did not want to spend more money to finish their own game.
The game right now feels like boneworks with custom avatars built in and a bone dry bare bones sdk which is basicly almost entirely useless now because of the community sdks because the devs never bothered to finish or fix anything
cause of that new rule unity has
basically unity made a new rule saying there now gonna charge devs for each game install this also includes reinstalls and pirated copies and multiple installs on multiple devices apprantly and this has made alot of unity devs mad since not only are they being charge for sales if they have over 200,000 sales but now there gonna be charged for installs and this even includes free games that have over 200,000 installs
people such as the guy who made that one game crab game (that one free to play squid game inspired game on steam that trended for some time and still trends now) they are mad and the guy did the math and realized he owes unity alot of money even though the game is free to play and he doesnt know what to do and might stop letting people download the game
this is affecting alot of game devs using unity such as one indie game studio that released a hyped game on gamepass realized there also gonna have to pay alot of royalitys now due to the installs
yeah it kinda makes sense why they did this
though me personally i dont think they should do this considering that they havent even finished updating bonelab and with its life cycle
i think they should just start working on hall of the machine king in unreal engine
maybe they should stop selling bonelab and boneworks since many unity indie game studios seem to be either pulling games they made in unity that are free or just stop selling there games made in unity and switch to unreal
except for some big indie studios such as people who made escape from tarkov and cuphead since they dont really have much to worry about
you see recently unity said there gonna start charging game devs for install fees and not just money made over 200,000
now games that have over 200,000 in installs now are gonna have install fees
alot of indies are made
some devs such as the dev studio that made human fall flat and totally accurate battle simulator have responded and are not happy about this
the dev studio that made the game cult of the lamb even annouced that there gonna stop selling the game on january 1st (same day unity is gonna make this rule officially be in tact) if unity doesnt revert this change
some devs such as the guy who made crab game which actually has alot of players and installs, he realized recently that he actually is gonna owe alot of money to unity for crab games installs despite crab game being free to play
some devs such as gary newman (guy who made gmod) pointed out on twitter that should people be trusting the tracking (some are having security concerns about privacy and how there gonna track installs)
they have made some changes after backlash such as when they first annouced this they said that reinstalls and installs on multiple devices are gonna count towards this and same for pirated installs (meaning if you delete a game then reinstall it that counts or if someone installs a game on multiple devices such as someone who plays human fall flat on pc then installs it on xbox or playstation then then that would count towards this) now they made reinstalls no longer count but installs on multiple devices do count
some people such as bigfrytv and someordnarygamers and thrillseeker have made videos on this
this is also affecting vr game devs the most since unity is the engine that most vr games are made in espically by indies and things such as the apple vision pro might suffer from this since this headset is releaseing soon and unity just annouced this and apple vision pro released there software for devs for only apples on devtools and unity and there never releaseing it to unreal (there in a lawsuit with epic games so that never is happening) so things such as the vision pro (although the vision pro already is gonna be a failed product on release since there only gonna be relying on dumb apple fanboys) might not have much games on release because of this
And things such as the quest 2 and quest 3 which the quest 3 also is releaseing soon and most standalone quest games where made in unity
the quest 3 standalone games might not have many new releases due to this
this is actually causing a huge problem for indie games and espically vr games since most vr games are in unity and most indie games in general are in unity
and the only solution people have is either deal with going bankrupt cause of unity or only make paid games in unity or simply go with another game engine such as godot or unreal or something else
not to mention i wanna see hall of the machine kings story and since if thats in unreal then that would be intresting
and unreal vr games support lumen and nanite (we could get vr ray tracing games due to unreal graphcs and i would love to see some vr ray tracing games since i think theres only 2 vr games with that and thats this vr car game and minecraft bedrocks old vr port on the rift store that got removed it support ray tracing if you had the ray tracing packs)
I personally think that there probs working on hall of the machine king in vr
and are probs gonna remove bonelab from steam and quest store/rift store and boneworks from steam and rift store since some unity devs seem to be pulling games of there that where made in unity and making there newer games in unreal or godot
