How has the high-end PCVR version been enhanced compared to the Quest version?
Do we get same polygon levels? Better textures? How about the dynamic shadows? Better physics or the same? Etc.

You can look up a comprarrision. But mainly it's graphical changes no gameplay changes

I'd much rather have the quest visuals if it means it'll run better. A lot of PCVR really suffers from rediculous system requirements in an age when upgrading a graphics card isn't really an option.

I do hope they took notes of their first venture and optimised the game better. There was some really rough levels in Boneworks that ran awful since they have to get the thing running on a Standalone VR

Physics are identical but things like Geometry and textures are lowered, Shadows are removed, Bloom is gone, my guess is dynamic lighting is cut down. The gameplay will be the same though.

Thanks, but that's some random user post on Reddit. It does not prove anything.
I've seen the Quest and PCVR images long ago, also you have no guarantee these really show the correct versions. For example devs behind Cosmonious High used the same trailer and screenshots for PCVR and Quest, even though the versions differed.

So I'm looking for an article where Stress Level Zero directly explains the real differences - not some dudes guessing based on images we all can see.

My questions in this thread were for the devs - if they care to answer. For example Red Matter 2 devs explained they used 1024 res for Quest 2 and 2048 or 4096 for PCVR etc. You can't see such differences on small-sized 2D screenshots.

Also the devs behind Red Matter 2 explained directly:

"The PC version of the game features:

High-resolution textures

Highest polycount mesh is always visible.

No mesh lodding.

Dynamic shadows

Indirect Shadows

Valve Index Controllers: If the game detects Valve Index Controllers being used, you will see a custom-made controller in-game."

This is the kind of info I'd greatly like to get for the PCVR version of Bonelab.

Btw, I'm using an oc'ed RTX 3090 and i9 10900K (10cores and 20threads, 5.3Ghz), and I'm using Index res 400% in Boneworks (or did I change that to 500% and 2xMSAA, can't remember) and have maxed out all in-game settings. The game runs flawlessly in 90 fps using Index - it even performed in solid 90 fps using my old GTX 1080 and Index res 200% with 2xMSAA.
So Boneworks is highly optimized and does not require a fast rig at all - unless you're using the Varjo Aero, lol.

Bonelab may be more demanding, devs recommend a RTX 2070 and i7 9700K. So I do hope we're getting an awesome PCVR version, although the recent release date trailer looked very Questified.

well the vast majority of people getting into VR that aren't looking to pay an extra 7-800 dollars for an index or just don't have the room to conveniently set one up are stuck with more general options like the oculus quest 2 which has to run double the software on your computer slowing PCVR performance immensely. I have an RTX 3060 (no oc) and an i7-7700k and my computer literally melts in bw sewers on the lowest settings, the only possible reason being the garbage oculus client stealing 20-30% of the resources my computer was dedicating to VR in the first place. I've used oculuskiller to subvert using the BS oculus client to run steamvr games, but it doesnt actually stop the client from running. Might honestly pick up the quest 2 version only because its such a pain to run BW, kinda sad.

I'm going to be paying attention to this one before I buy. I won't give AAA price to a A level Q ified game. I've already seen a few games that were garbage just to get quest customers who don't know it is a garbage quality game.
I strongly suggest PCVR people be careful we aren't getting ripped off with a low end game to sell to quest types.

well the vast majority of people getting into VR that aren't looking to pay an extra 7-800 dollars for an index or just don't have the room to conveniently set one up are stuck with more general options like the oculus quest 2 which has to run double the software on your computer slowing PCVR performance immensely. I still have my great old Rift CV1 connected to the rig, and I'm fully aware of the large performance penalty when using Rift for SteamVR. In Trover Saves the Universe (requires SteamVR drivers) it felt like upgrading my back then GTX 1080 to a 2080 Ti, when I refunded the SteamVR version and bought the Rift Store version. If Bonelab requires SteamVR drivers like Boneworks, and if the game is available in the Rift Store, Quest 2 users may benefit a lot from the Rift version. Brandon replied on Twitter that Bonelab is cross-buy in the Meta Stores.

That said, even with 20-30% reduced performance and a RTX 3060, your performance should be awesome in Boneworks. Have you tried all possibilities, tethered, airlink, virtual desktop?
I checked last night, I am running Boneworks in Index res 500% - that's an insane res of 45 mill pixels per frame (combining both eyes), Bonework should run flawlessly on your rig.

Btw, devs recommend a RTX 2070 for Bonelab, but say Bonelab will perform similar to Boneworks.

If I remember correctly, Boneworks did only have dynamic shadows in certain locations - maybe that explains the dynamic shadows in the Bonelab announcement trailer - and the lack of shadows in the release date trailer. Soon we'll know :-)

Some headsets are more efficient. My Rift S, gone before it's time because controller is no replaceable, easily handled some of my games. Part of it is some things forced using steamVR. Other things like msfs2020 didn't, but the increased demands of my Reverb G2 still pressed me into getting a new video card.
Personally I did BW with a 970 video card, if memory serves, and had no problems. But that was on a rift s.
