This Is Just Stupid
You're cutting out majority of characters and scenarios to 'focus on Oda and Mitsuhide'. Then you make everyone an anime purdy boi. What's next Dynasty Warriors 10 will only have 5 characters and end at the battle of Chi Bi?

Oh let me guess you'll sell the rest of the game that was in previous entries as 'season pass dlc' right? So if I want to see the rise of the Tokugawa Shoganute I have to pay $30 for the season pass or be forced to pay $50+ for separate DLCs correct? Honestly I don't understand the appeal this is clearly a lazy scam of a product. Just port over Samurai Warriors 4 Empires, Dynasty Warriors 7 Empires, and bring Samurai Warriors 2 and Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper back on sale to PC and we'll be fine till you can actually make a quality Warriors game again.

what's puk? and xl games have musou/story mode, but only for the new characters on the disc, you needed to have the base game to play with all characters
PUK is what KOEI does for their "strategic simulation" series.
Release "better" version or DLC with unlocking elements blocked on purpose and some additional mechanics.
Most of the PUK never see official english version. Half of them never see fan translatino either.

Except that Capcom failed to sue anyone, since they essentially sued Koei for making DLC. Now I feel like people make that excuse to make excuses for SW4-II, since it really shouldn't have been its own game.
Koei stated that SW 4 is a "dissapointment" and "failure of the game design" and made "better 4th"
But of course they are not willing to do the same for DW9.
Strange, since 4-II has shorter stories and feels more like they revolved the game around 13 characters and then shoved a few others in because they realised a game with just 13 characters would be too few.

Because Koei spells ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Still, it's pretty official that 4-II is remake.

barely a remake, how many characters were added into samurai warriors 4-II? with that said, I have a feeling II/definitive editions have replaced extreme legends cause koei tecmo got sued by capcom awhile back so they just make complete versions now. Also with the era of dlc there is no real excuse to make a whole other disc with just expanded content, what I mean is if you bought xl back in the day and didn't have the base game than you only had a few characters to play as.

I'm not making an excuse for II, I didn't even buy II, I brought it up because ever since they got sued when was the last time they have made an extreme legends?
Last one I recall is dw8:xl and that same year was when capcom sued them, also a quick google not looking at fine details of course, mentions that the court ruled in favor of capcom as of 2019 and koei tecmo had to pay them.

edit:
and the other reason I brought up extreme legends is because I'm pretty sure sw4-II does exactly what an extreme legends game does which is make new characters who have their own story mode and that's it. Am I wrong about this? last xl I've personally purchased was sw2:xl and I've played 7 extreme legend titles and they have all been like this.

edit2: Looks like they didn't have to pay for the disc data thing, but the final judgement wasn't made till around 2019 so they could have just not made an xl to lay low, but II is still similar to xl.

tl:dr
Capcom court case with koei tecmo for over 5 years, II is very similar to xtreme legends version of games.

Been wanting to get back into this series since SW2 Empires but the prices are insane. I've legit waited for SW4 Empires to go on sale on PSN for 7 months. (For perspective it costs the exact same amount as this new release does but its 6 years old) Why the hell are these games so expensive for all eternity? £40 would be okay for a new release, but this is £55 or £80 if you go deluxe for a game that's arguably trimmed down in content compared to older titles.

I agree, it's maximum price for minimal content and compared to any other full price game it blows in comparison on so many fronts. Very little innovation coming out of KT anymore.

I think 4 benefited from having many model assets already in that engine. WO3 is the basis for all that came afterward. This engine is new (ish). It'll take time to get assets built up for it. But it may just be the warriors fan in me seeing that viewpoint too. Whatev. I'm havin fun with 5.

Are a crap ton of people here ignoring from what i can see are the younger versions of the characters? Have you bothered to look at the aged versions in the same game?

I think this is the point a lot of people is missing. This time they rebuilt "almost everything" from scratch. The previous games in the series basically started from the same base recycled assets (like many other serial games). This time they had to build from a new engine, new assets, new shading... and not just for the playable characters. I personally like a lot the new artstyle, the made it modern with a traditional painting trait, it's colored and vibrant.
Said that i think the price tag is really too high: hell, 70 € is too much for whichever triple A game (not only previous KT games)

If the game is lackluster because of it's on a new engine... then why don't just stay on the old engine?

KT pretty much have the best looking character models in all Japanese game companies. The engine and character models they have in Dead or Alive, Warriors, Fatal Frame, Ninja Gaiden... don't need to be replaced.

Who in the world looks at the character models of the recent DOA & DW9/WO4 and say "Oh no... they're so terrible, we need to scrap all of these and create a new engine and make them look like cartoon paintings!"

Seriously? I'd rather have SW5 on the old engine, same character designs but with new outfits, etc. Why even reboot it?

At this point I'd rather save my money to buy Fatal Frame in October.

Because it's laggy ♥♥♥♥ which can't really calculate damage to the officers far from the player characters on honest way.

The series NEEDED a new engine, and the result shows, it looks and runs better. But it's just an excuse, they could have worked more to put more content in the game. They prefered making less content and sell the rest as DLC.
As I said on another thread, they had the perfect opportunity to get back everyone who left because of the DW9 disaster, and instead they choose to milk it.

Even if they need a new engine, they clearly don't need a new style.

They don't need to scrap the realistic character models.

IIRC, DW9 & WO4 are already on a new engine (not the same as SW4 engine), but they kept the same character designs no problem. What's the need for these cartoon graphics? They can't make the game runs fine unless it's in cartoon graphics?

And what's with the performance issues anyway? WO4 runs on my desktop and my laptop without any performance issue.
bruticus0 29. juli 2021 kl. 12.58
WO4 is not on a new engine I dont think. It's same basic as sw4. All of which originated in DW 7 and W/O 3. Even DW9 seems to be just an extension of 8. You'll find a giant LinkDATA.bin in all the PS3, PS4, and PC ports. Usually that one file contained the whole game. Which always caused trouble for Fat32 storage on JB'd ps3s.

Anyway, u can see this game is drastically different in contents. Much sleeker in file structure anyway. I'd also point out the the SW3 and 4 Artbooks and Character Books that came out since SW1 has a similar style to what we see in SW5. It's worth a look if u have them. Koeiwarriors forum used to share the scans of them. So u cud look for them there.

I completely understand this is like Dynasty Warriors 6 was for Dynasty Warriors, and while the idea isn't bad, the problems I find are mostly in the story.

What they did to Nô mirrors what they did with Sun Shang Xiang in DW6. And that is unforgivable.

Also Shingen was shoe-horned into Nagashino, and it was "just a kage-musha". That is also unforgivable considering the importance of Shingen's figure, even if he was irrelevant to the Oda.

Also Katsuie Shibata. Solid, reliable and dependable character up until this game, now completely unlikable because he keeps betraying Nobunaga.

Ya the SW2 quiet, collected, composed Katsuiie is much more enjoyable. I find Kenshin unforgiveable myself. They didn't need to do it like that. He's the poster boy of the monk warrior arch type. And now he's a boy band promoter.

I'm of the opinion this game does some stuff really well, and some stuff terribly. I just hope they can figure out which is which going forward.
