The game reminds me of Blood a lot.
He does not keep spawning. The minions teleport, making it look like he is - there are like 2 waves of minions and he spawns some more for second phase, I think. So the trick is to actually kill them all before you deal with the boss himself - once you do that, his own attacks are hilariously easy to dodge.
I think the game will become more manageable on replays because I'm getting the sense what upgrades should be focused on but yeesh, I think there's still a lot of game still to go, I just about barely managed that massive gauntlet/arena where you're in space. The last bit was easiest because at least I was able to use invincibility a decent amount.
To many throwing multiple projectiles bullet-spounge monsters & less ammo - reminds me Daikatana at launch. That will nice to put ammunition on levels or decrease number of monsters a little bit!
