It's not a game, but a mapmaking software for tabletop RPGs.

Also to mention: It is in the price range of other map-making software on the market.

imo it's not too unreasonable. Granted each one fills a slightly different niche, but:

  • Inkarnate is $5/mo (9 months to break even)
  • Dungeon Draft is $30
  • Dungeon Fog is $5/mo
  • Dungeon Builder is $65
  • Campaign Cartographer is $45

In the end, you can always wait for more updates before you buy if it's not in your budget right now.

I couldn't throw my money at them fast enough. I've only had it two days and already feel like it was well worth the sticker price.

It's not horrible. You can build a tavern map in like 20 clicks and export it to Foundry. It's missing content, but the engine is stable, FAST, and pretty slick. I don't like that it exports top-down only. Would be nice if they had Isometric support in VTTs. I did the kickstarter and feel it was worth it for the $25 I paid. Only hope the add-on content isn't crazy expensive. I have high hopes that they rush the Sci-Fi content because that's what I'm doing these days and having quick maps would be muy beneficial.

I guess this really is one of the big selling points: Creating a small location with a few rooms and some pretty decoration, exporting it and getting it into Foundry VTT with walls and lighting takes about as much time as someone might take to make some coffee and fetch cookies.
Something like Dungeondraft will give you more options and (in particular comparing it to the present early access version of this application) probably be more powerful when you want to create an expansive map exactly like you want it to look, but when you're making something like a tavern on the side of the road or a small keep in the woods it won't come close to being as fast as Dungeon Alchemist ... and Dungeondraft already is quite good at making the manual process of creating maps really fast.

This is the best mapmaking software out there. Period. So worth the money.

This is far superior to Dungeondraft already. You can make a map in less than five minutes. The graphics are much better. Also, I've manage to make large maps with this in little time.

Bingo. I whipped up the floor plans my parent's tavern in about 5 minutes, and fine tuned it to be (almost) perfect in another 30 minutes. Our tavern is a bit more complicated with having both rooms for Halflings and Big Folk and all that, but no one really writes stuff like this to cater to Small Folk like me.

Also, I'm Thistle Honeymead and I approve this message.

I like it, but I wish it was a VTT itself.

Its still coming along. Picked this gem up on Kickstarter when it was cheaper to get into. Its reasonably priced comparing it to other software AND its still in development. Early Access don't mean its abandonware, nor does it mean that its a finalized product.
The software shows promise to be a decent map maker, good for Tabletop RPs, VTT, and world building for story writers.
