How does this compare to 2k21 currently?
Thinking of picking this up on sale but I don't play competitively (just career mode and custom courses occasionally). Reviews seem to bash it pretty hard on both the physics and the in-game monetization so not sure if I should give it a shot or just stick with 2k21.

I'm in the same boat...might just wait for 95% off since there's ads in game

To be fair it's pretty good and there's a very good 3 click implementation if you fancy trying something different.
Don't forget it's an "always online" game and if you aren't on or get disconnected you can't play career mode.

It uses unity which is a resource hog and some players complain about lag, which can happen when you swing so it completely ruins your shot.

All in all it's pretty decent, if you have a good system but isn't as good as EA PGA Tour, imho.

One word of warning: Don't play random online because 9 players out of 10 will disconnect if they are losing, leaving the game just hanging.
Even online with friends suffers from regular disconnects. It's something that has never been addressed I'm afraid....

2K23 is 2 years old now.

As a fan of the first hour (TGC1 and further on) I can tell that 2K23 is no more than an upgrade on the title. It's the same game as 2K21 (I prefer even more 2K21 over 2K23). The graphics are the same. What's diffrent then... The rewards system has changed dramaticly. Is that good? Maybe, but I don't think that should be the main reason to actually buy this game. If there is a reason to buy this version it's because it's in a great discount and because there are new courses to play... made by the community. The repeatedly same official courses are not the drive to buy this one.
