Amazing in practice, terrible in "career"?
I can go to the practice area and hit every ball perfectly flush. Then I go play in "career" mode and my balls are flying left and right all over the place. what am I doing wrong?

!st issue to resolve is to try all 3 swing types, then work on the one that works best for you - The level of Golfer also can make a diff in controlling the Swing Meter.

then come back here for further help.

Yes you can go to practice and hit a billion in a row perfect...then fast, perfect, slow, fast, perfect on the course. Makes NO sense at all.

That's because the framerate on the practice range is stable and the same
Framerates on other courses vary from hole to hole, and course to course
Framerates impact the tempo and where the dial's Perfect spot is
There also seems to be something that randomises the tempo or doesn't use your set sensitivity settings correctly. This happens to me all the time Online when I change the setting mid game, then when I come back later my swing is either too fast or slow depending how I changed the setting earlier
It is also confirmed how back then, Divot Derby would 100% ignore your sensitivity settings and always feel way too sensitive resulting fast tempos every time compared to matchmaking or local play

And that's the problem with using unity......a badly optimised engine....

Swing timing is just a crap shoot and the calibration doesn't make any noticeable fixes. It's just lazy coding
