Is local co-op career mode possible?

Both players progress through the career together but with two different profiles. They sit together on the couch and play together while both results are stored in individual profiles.

In that case, no. Not on the same machine. You could do something like if each was on a separate machine (console, PC, laptop) with their own login playing the same event under the same conditions. Take turns making shots. But the AI scores would be different.

Another option is to create your own off-line tour. I play against the PGA tour pros whenever 2K has a playable course that the pros are on. I add 3 shots to my score every round so I don't finish top ten every week. I still won 4 events last year. This also makes watching on TV more enjoyable, especially with the lower level tournaments that most of the top golfers skip.

This game only allows you to create one Golfer. Steam will only allow one Profile per PC & Console. So if you had 2 Pc's/ 2 Consoles or both, you would have to have 2 steam accounts with different Emails to do that & pay for a second game.
PS: in Ranked mode games playing DUO ( alt shot ), that would be considered cheating.

Thanks for your answers. Since I know that this is a repeatedly demanded feature for years, I wonder why the devs do not implement it. I'm sure they would reach a greater audience with the local co-op career.
