How to properly use sponsorships?

Is the idea to sign up with 3, max out the tiers, and then sign with someone else to get more stuff, or do you lose the rewards you've earned if you leave a sponsor? Is any of this explained anywhere?

You can tell what the sponsors offer at each tier so look for what you want...balls clubs clothes and use that sponsor until you no longer want any more of their stuff and go onto another sponsor.

Right, it's just not clear to me if you forfeit the stuff you've gotten if you switch sponsors. Eg, would they take their club back if I sign with someone else?
